Summer in Chicago More Dangerous Than Iraq

If you don't like Chicago, move to Bagdad! Do it for the safety of your family.

In 2008 a memorial to a human life lost is a push-pin on a Google map.

Maybe now we will hear a bit less from Joe Moore about Iraq and maybe hear something, anything from him about the bullets flying in the streets of his ward.

125 Shot Dead In Chicago Over Summer

Total Is About Double The U.S. Troop Death Toll In Iraq

CHICAGO (CBS) ― An estimated 125 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.

In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps.

Violent crime reports available on the [Police] department's website ... shows that the murder in the city is up 18 percent from last year.

Joe Moore does not care if someone gets murdered in Rogers Park. He'd rather we not talk about people killing people in his neighborhood.

As long as we as a community stay silent, nothing will change.

Bad things happen to good people who stay silent.

Crime & murders are up in the city.

The CTA is haveing buget problems.

The city doesn't have enough revenue comeing in. But yet in my neighborhood Loyola university has bought & converted 2 more apartment buildings which brings the total amount of buildings to approx: 9. That is 9 buildings that the city is not getting any property tax brought in.

Mayor Daley wants the olympics here in Chicago!! We can not keep the city running properly now! What price tag is going to be hanging on the tax payers necks once the games are gone, and all the short falls & over runs that will be swept under the table, and not come to the public attentions until carpetbaggers run out of town with there pockets full on monies!

I don't understand the comment about Loyola buying apartment buildings and no taxes - what buildings are you talking about? And, do they pay no tax because they are a university? explain please

I had one of the lovely homeless or drug people down by Circle Park come at me this morning. He is lucky he didn't get his arm taken off trying to pet one of my dogs without asking. I am so sick of those creeps sitting down by Circle Park on a daily basis - how can we get rid of them?

From what I'm reading on the Uptown blog, they're calling 911 or everything, from graffiti to loitering. Bother the cops enough to do their job and they'll make the guys know not to loiter just so they don't have to keep coming back. Call 911 for crimes and loitering is a crime. Even better if you can catch them sleeping on the benches or drinking.

If you do start calling 911 for all crimes, as you should, be prepared for the cops to start purposely disregarding your calls. I have heard (on my scanner) the Sargent on duty advising their beat cars to ignore certain calls. Of course, I continue calling anyway. Also, the dispatcher will often send the calls to the 'box' (beat car computer screen) to avoid putting it on the air with their 'comments', knowing that I'm listening to the scanner. So much for "We Serve and Protect". Some of these officers have real attitude problems and something needs to be done about it!
