If you walked off the Morse Avenue EL Friday night at 7pm, this is what you would have seen. Dozens of squad cars lined the Morse Ave CTA EL, not to mention the entire shift of Chicago's Finest. Very impressive.
Orders were given to the shift, which included making sure every officer knew that Beat 2431 is under Lock-Down. Heavy duty-Lock Down!
Paws 4 Peace joined in support of this measure, but no one from Kevin O'Neil's CAPS Beat 2431 team showed up. I guess they left Kevin "Out of the Loop?"
Let's hope the police continue to give Beat 2431 this attention. Not just because a fellow officer got hurt, but because they care about giving the citizens of Rogers Park the safety we pay for and deserve.

This did not last long, the hoods were on Morse this morning and no cops.

Can you tell me why Kevin didn't show support for the Police Department? This is his beat, why are you having to do this? He is the official volunteer, not you.

How about cameras? Why not train cameras up and down Morse, and then arrest those who should be arrested. They're not expensive, and who would object, in public places, considering the extent of the problem??
Cameras may seem like a solution, but remember that someone must monitor the video. And, considering the brief time required for a drug transaction, you would probably need one person for every three or so cameras. Do you want to dedicate sworn officers for this, rather than having them out on the street?
Also, I would think that there would be some legal prohibitions on arresting someone for activity taped over video, as opposed to an on-site observation.
On the plus side, cameras might serve as a deterrent up until the point when the bad guys figure out that they don't work. In the long run, they would probably just raise expectations without improving the climate. Just my opinion.

There were also several squad cars arresting someone around 7:15pm Saturday night, in the same spot. I didn't get a good luck but I thought it might be a drug deal.

Yes, I too hope this was done for us and not because one of their own got hurt in this crime. Not showing the detectives is a smart, class act by Craig. Kudo's for using great judgement!
Ryan, what makes you think Kevin even knew about all the police action on Friday night? My experience with the cops is they are not good communicators. I've called to the district office and not gotten a call back.
