just lost my whole comment so this will be brief. I was at the meeting and I think certain people in attendance (the author included) had a somewhat hostile and disrespectful attitude towards the police. The police are just people too and they are doing a very difficult job. Approaching them in a confrontational and angry manner is not the way to work with them in my opinion. We need to work with the police not against them to use a cliche.
Personally, I felt that they listened to what I had to say and I saw them driving down my street the very next evening checking things out. They can't fix things overnight- no one can. Just my 2 cents-thanks
