* Let's Have a Look at that Tape-Part 3

Thursday August 25, 2005 - 9:10pm until 9: 22pm.

1345 W. Lunt Avenue.

First few minutes we have a couple fighting. The next few minutes we have four, white t-shirt wearing, black thug kids roll up on bicycles and totally pummel the guy who is fighting with his chick.

I call 911, then I try to break up the four against one fight.

The police show up, the police chew ME out! The police let all the thug fighters go.

Great police work. What a joke.

I am still miffed this morning. As a citizen, there's nothing more I could have done. Why? Because none of the thug goons, nor the girl, wanted to press charges, nothing could be done? This excuse is hogwash.

This is how the shootings start. A fight starts out small, one side gets overpowered, the other side wants revenge. Over a girl, over turf, over a hand shake, it doesn't matter, it always starts out small and winds up big!

These bicycle goons should have been arrested. No questions asked. They clearly jumped, and beat the shit out of one other person. Mob action violence.

Heck, not one ID was cheched from the four bicycles thugs. They were told to ride off.

I put myself on the line, I put myself in danger, I put myself in harms way, for calling in and reporting what happened, a gang fight. Mob action gang violence.

I pointed out the offenders and exactly what went down. A gang fight, mob action, gang violence.

To the police this must not have been a big deal, it was just a little fight. To me, this is the poor quality of life here in Rogers Park. Multi person street fighting where blood flows doesn't rank as a issue for arrest.

Maybe next time it will be when one of these punks pulls a gun a shoots another person, the police will do something?

I feel like reporting this to the higher-ups, but that's clearly a waste of time. Nothing will be solved. I will be blamed for throwing gas on the fire.

This incident woke me up last night, since I live right across the street and can see clearly from my window. I saw Craig try to break up the fight, and nothing before hand but shouting I could hear over an air conditioner (this is the reason i keep it on at night).

One girl was sitting on the stairs to the enterance of 1345 W. Lunt, clearly shaken. At least 6 police cars (4 marked, and at least 2 that were unmarked) rolled up quickly. As soon as they came, everyone tried to go, including the four kids on their bikes.

The cops did cut everyone loose, without asking questions or checking for ID. If they would have asked for ID or even asked questions, we could get the security tape and take action from there -- or at least know who was involved. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED DIRECTLY INFRONT OF THE SEUCURITY CAMERA. I don't know what was said or what the police procedure is in situations like this, but it seemed rather dumb to simply let everyone go without taking statements or at least investigating. Craig broke up the fight and did everything he could to resolve the situation before the police got there.

At the same time, I understand the police trying to get everyone to back away, including Craig. I'm not so sure I understand why the police simply let everyone go on their way without taking statements, checking ID's, or even asking these people (individually) what happened.

We need to get the security tape from about 9 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25. That will tell us exactly what happened. If police would have taken names or checked ID's, we could reference the tape with the ID's, and take further action from there.
