* Who's Really Fighting for the 49th Ward

Exclusive Look @ Re-Cycled/Re-Election Poster
Smart readers I have. That's right. Alderman Moore is running for re-election. Nothing new. This time Alderman Moore is starting real, real early. His crew was pulling out his campaign equipment like a family pulls out Christmas decorations.

Here's the poster. The first properly hung, campaign sign, window poster. Do you remember the slogan? It's back!!!

"Fighting for the 49th Ward." It's catchy, but is it true? Nice hook to it. Keeping it simple. "Fighting for the 49th Ward."

3600 voters actually believed this message. 3600 out of 55,000 residents in the ward. A real small number of people, but a powerful minority.

Let's look back on the last 3 years and revisit a couple of things Alderman Moore fought for.

Alderman Moore fought hard for HIS 15% percent pay raise. Working a few days a week, $100,000 doesn't go far.

In 2003: right after re-election, Alderman Moore, with the help of DevCorp North fought hard to raise higher taxes with Special Service Area #24. When the dust settled 185 property owners wound up getting a boon-doggle tax less than a dozen property owners in the area publicly supported. Still, the Alderman at times did his best President Bush pep-rally routine, by announcing in public, "Kimmy's doin a hell of a job over there"....

In 2004: Alderman Moore fought hard and watched DevCorp North fumble away time and money, week after week with Special Service Area #19 and 24. From a Farmerless Market to no retail, the 49th ward lost jobs and economic impact. Even the Alderman had to shop for his supplies in Evanston. Still, the Alderman at times did his best President Bush pep-rally routine, by announcing in public, "Kimmy's doin a hell of a job over there"....

2005: Endless infomercials for developers from across the city. Holding joint meetings with DevCorp North on TIF'S & SSA'S. Watching the Chicago Police Department put up 3 camera pods indicating high crime and open air drug market corners. Still, the Alderman at times did his best President Bush pep-rally routine, by announcing in public, "Crime is decreasing (fill in the percentage here)...."Kevie at CAPS is doin a hell of a job over there"....

So readers, look back on the last 3 years. Revisit a few things Alderman Moore fought for you in the 49th ward. Tell us your "Alderman Moore - Fighting for the 49th Ward" stories in the comments section.

Thanks Sally, I'm sure Toni will tell us that Gale Field-house story in it's entire glory.

How about this one.

When the then, owner of the Cocoa-Bean Cafe got beaten inches from his life by a gang of thugs who just got out of jail, the Alderman had the cold blooded nerve to place blame on the business owner.

"Always placing blame! Never accepting responsibility"! Now that should be Alderman Moore's new campaign sign slogan.

Here is a campaign slogan Moore can use that is truthful for a change:
"Re-elect Joe Moore... bamboozling 49th Ward voters since 1991."

Moore must go. But to do so you have to start NOW, by taking action against candidates being pushed in the March Primary by Moore and his loyal lackey, Democratic Committeeman David Fagus.

That means voting against their choices in the two major races on the ballot. It means voting for Edwin Eisendrath for Governor over their choice, Rod Blagojevich and for Forrest Claypool for County Board President over their pick, incumbent John Stroger.

It seems that birds of a feather do flock together, as all of these sorry excuses for public officials have disgraced themselves in office. An Eisendrath upset of Blagojevich would have the added benefit of giving one of Blagojevich's few decent administrative appointments, Veterans Affairs Director Roy Dolgos, an incentive to check out running for public office himself (the last time I checked, Dolgos lived on the 49th Ward side of Wallen Avenue).

As for ousting Stroger, may I remind everyone that Fagus has a cushy bureaucratic job at the former Cook County Hospital that now bears Stroger's name. (In fairness, I must state for the record that I have to assume Fagus is doing a better job there than he does a committeeman, since most of the patients there are still breathing!)

By turning the 49th Ward vote away from Blagojevich and Stroger in March, you would be demonstrating your political strength now. This would encourage discontented residents to stay in the ward and join the battle, rather than simply move out of the ward (which has been a key component of Moore's political strategy for the past decade). You would also be able to build up direct contacts with voters six months before you would have to begin circulating nominating petitions for Alderman (I cannot begin to stress how important this would be in a ward that increasingly consists of gated apartment buildings).

The Illinois Committee for Honest government is supporting Eisendrath and Claypool, as well as other candidates whose election would erode Moore's political strength (such as Frank Avila for Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District). Anyone wishing to get further information can call 773/744-8839 or E-mail shermanrandall@hotmail.com.

Best wishes to all those who join in this fight,

RANDALL SHERMAN
Secretary/Treasurer, Illinois Committee for Honest Government

i always wondered who lived at that house while that was going on. i used to feel sorry for you.

on sundays, you couldn't even drive down that street with all the double parked cars and people. with permanant trinket table and chairs, it was a regular cottage industry.

He's not just recycling signs, he's recycling his whole agenda:

Just in time for the election! Shew!
