* After School Delight

Corrected Version

Schools out for the day and it's the west side of the Block building on east side of Glenwood Avenue, between Morse and Lunt. A real life drug playground. At one time this area was considered out of bounds.

Not anymore. Now it's a secure working area for the Beat 2431 Open Air Drug Market salesman.

Check the exclusive photograph above taken around 3:30 p.m, Wednesday. If you think this kid is reading his report card to his friend, you are wrong. What happened was, after this quick drug buy, this kid couldn't wait to roll up his drugs, so he did it right on the street. He needed his fix. After all it was after-school and the kid had nothing to do but get high with his buddies. The young girl off to the right of the photo is keeping eye to the north to avoid being caught. Getting caught would be a buzz kill.

Really now, this is nothing new in Beat 2431. All the police have to do is plug into the Block building cameras (and actually monitor them, hint-hint) then they would have enough illegal activity from the footage to fill a full season of the TV show COPS. Instead, it's like watching a episode of Reno 911.

The same goes for Morse Pod # 19. Hey Mr. Policeman, please start looking at what the camera is recording, if the camera is recording anything at all? Is it even working Mr. Policeman? The Open Air Drug Market is working hard, right under your nose, you should be too. As CAPS award winner Katy Hogan said at a CAPS meeting a couple of months ago, " The blue camera is invisible to the dealers now"! Why did the city spend time and money installing the camera if you aren't going to use it?

I walk down Morse daily and as the weather is getting warmer, I will probably end up taking Lunt to avoid the bad vibes I feel there when the loiterers come out.

I was walking behind 2 young women on Morse yesterday and every other word coming out of their mouth was a swear word- I couldn't help but think how they expect to get anywhere in life behaving that way. They headed right for the clubhouse place on Morse where the man was killed. They were yelling F-U to some guy across the street.

So you expect the Morse Cameras to see thru brick and concret? Camera's will just drive the drug dealers deeper into the residential side streets and alleyways. It's not a panacea or a solution. It may actually cause more problems by pushing one gang into another gang's territory. And the results may be more shootings and possibly hits on innocent bystanders.

But Craig, you're so darn focussed on double parking pizza delivery men.
