...Fool me twice, shame on me.
by Thomas Westgard
The nature of summer is that it brings more people outdoors, and some of those interactions will be negative. Part of that is the temperatures, part is the school schedule. That is the nature of summer.
What we don't have to take for granted is a non-accountable elected official. Those who attended CAPS meetings on this issue know the promises that were made. Joe Moore promised to acquire and turn over the name of this building's owner. He has failed to do so. Joe Moore promised to attend CAPS meetings to work on the problem. He has failed to do so. Joe Moore promised to monitor Mr. Block's progress and ensure that the property manager's promises were fulfilled. Joe Moore failed to comply with his promise to do each and every one of these things.
These goonings are not new, and in fact, the location of this one is probably no accident, given the history in past years of the location of goonings. Given that Joe Moore acquiesced to the neighbors' plan for dealing with the problem, he evidently thought it would be effective. Given that Joe Moore failed to follow through on the plan that was designed to deal with these goonings, it is fair to say that this man was attacked because Joe Moore stood aside and let it happen.
There is a larger pattern here. Joe will say what is required to calm people down in a moment, but promises made by Joe Moore do not turn into results from Joe Moore. We are being lied to, fed a bland pablum instead of getting the services he owes us. We see this today with the goonings he has allowed, and we will continue to see it, as long as we continue to permit his continued participation in public life.

Craig, I want to thank you for all the time and energy you put into keeping the site up and running - and covering what is happening around the neighborhood. Bringing people together and sharing opinions will help make RP a better place to live. I think we all could do more by actually showing up and putting in real effort to make change. Going to CAPS meetings for example is not enough - we all need to get off our nightly butts and START taking action in some way. Such as making a small committment to organized walks once or twice a month etc... When you think about it, if 50-75 people committed to one activity per month much could be accomplished. Especially if that group of people split up into smaller groups, making two or three "events" per month.
7pm and I'm sure Craig will post it- It's a CAPs walk. I think it's important to start the summer off this way so we are going to be at all the walks on Friday nights this summer as God is my witness!
