* Is DevCorp North Finished Under Gordon?

Here's one subject that caught my eye. This was also on Gordon's 49th ward master agenda. From the looks of things - Don doesn't care too much for the work DevCorp North either.

The First 100 Days:

1.) Convene a series of working sessions with residents, community business owners, and successful entrepreneurs to create a Chamber of Commerce that is responsive to business development and accountable to our community.

Blognotes: Stay tuned, more business news coming. I'll have more on that Clark Street Liquor Store story later today. I still have some final touches and a few more questions to get answered.

Alas, Gordon's pledge to create a real chamber of commerce in our neighborhood does not mean DevCorp North is finished. Although DevCorp North used to CLAIM they were a chamber of commerce, DevCorp North is not and never has been a chamber of commerce. A chamber of commerce is a business league, IRS 501(c)(6). DevCorp North is a public charity, an IRS 501(c)(3). DevCorp North is the not-for-profit division of Moore, Inc.

Great question! Thanks!

Of course you would expect a REAL chamber of commerce to be funded by its members and accountable to them. Most of DevCorp North's funding come from the taxpayers of the City of Chicago through the Department of Planning and Development. You're right, this being Chicago this funding would not go through without the Alderman's advice & consent. DevCorp North is publicly funded but only accountable to the Alderman.

Here's more details
