* Alderman Moore is Late Again

Group Photo-Op Minus Moore

4:30 p.m: In what could be his last silver shovel groundbreaking ceremony, Alderman Moore was once again late. As you can see, everyone's got a shovel, but one's still unattended. If this were a real construction site, the worker who owned that shovel would either be docked pay, or sent home all together.
Blessing the Ground

4:32 p.m: The pastor offers a prayer for the safe completion of the project and sprinkles holy water on the ground. Still no Alderman Moore.
Exclusive - Alderman @ Work

4:35 p.m: Alderman Moore finally arrives in time to grab his special shovel. With a few handshakes and back-patting, the Alderman's ready for his photo-op. Exclusively here, Alderman Moore is captured in action, actually moving dirt with the shovel. It happened so fast, if you blinked, you would've missed it.

4:35 and 10 seconds p.m: That quickly, it was over. It was cold too. Everyone left as quick as Alderman Moore worked. About 10 seconds. No one wearing a hard-hat fixed the broken fence.

You know he should "work" more often- it really suits him.

So... which one of the other candidates has taken the pledge if elected never to accept campaign contributions from developers?

The down fence thing is really silly, so of course it's on the BH blog. Perhaps the workers can pick up the fence today and save the world from this horrible injustice. Oh and wasn't Bill Clintion always late? Of course the beloved Bush is always on time.
By the way the work around of the donations (pledge) from developers is easy, you set up a foundation or group and donate through that, I mean are you guys grown up or are you living in utopia land where just getting a new alderman will fix your issues.

rogersparking - where did all of the other candidates publicly state that they will not accept donations from developers?

Ask Joe. He knows that you can't get anything done in the ward without the buy-in from developers. This is the very reason He takes so much money from them.

I would really like to see where these other candidates supposedly said they won't take developer monies. How naive they must be.

Occasionally this blog transcends into high art.

That photo of that lonely silver shovel is one of those times.

The INCUMBENT pledged not to take contribtins from developers, in 2000!

Neighbor David Starr, a former research director for Citizen Action/Illinois (of which Moore is currently a member of the Board of Directors), performed an analysis of Moore's campaign contributions. Starr found $57,100 in contributions from real estate developers, and he tried to ask his Alderman about it at a zoning meeting at Pottawatomie Park. Moore, who was chairing the meeting, ruled Starr was out of order.

And by the Way:
Some Wonder What a Contribution Buys
Marcella Tardy, Lerner News, April 5, 2000

Excerpt:

" ... it's been my long-standing policy not to accept campaign donations from anyone who has a zoning or land-use issue pending," Moore said. "That's not a requirment of law. That's something I impose upon myself to remove any hint of possible influence."

Jim has said on numerous occasions he would not take contributions from developers. If any other candidate said that, I am not aware of it.

While I appreciate the ideals behind that stance, I am not so sure it's practical. It sure is a slippery slope though.

I guess Roxy thinks we can't do better than Joe Moore. I think we can. Joe has as much promised "more of the same" and he doesn't think anything is broken so he isn't going to try and fix it.

Thank god that is over and this property can go back to being a vacant lot.

Moore is the only candidate in this race who has taken a pledge to not take contributions from developers and BROKEN it.

Hey Joe, how about a photo op at the Adelphi site on Clark?

Hey Joe, how about a photo op at the "Lerner" site, Howard & Ashland?
