* Don Gordon's Closing Statement @ Northside Power Forum
49th Ward Aldermanic candidate Don Gordon and his closing remarks at the Northside Power/Good News Kitchen forum north of Howard in Rogers Park. (Un-cut.)
It takes some real balls to get up in front of that crowd and talk about being a poor child with three mommas. SPARE ME! What an arrogant and condescending thing to say. Are you linking yourself to the poor by way of birth? I don't think that he has a CLUE to be remotely as poor as some of the folks sitting in that room. I hope that he comes armed with a string quartet to augment that sad ass song. Jeez! Way to milk the heart strings...NOT. Next time plagiarize Steve Martin from "The Jerk" 'I wuz born a poor white child'. Hey you can even do it while re-enacting your sweaty morning jog to illustrate what great shape you're in! How about some real issues and LESS...MUCH Less of your biography!
Oooo! I pushed a button here. You don't know any woman who "writes" like me. Perhaps you need to get out a bit more and expand your social circles. I stand by anything that I have said or "written". I was raised by a single mother as well as extended family and I'm not saying that Don doesn't have the right to preach about his background. I am saying that he was maudlin and basically pimping his background to show that he is a "regular" kind of guy. Bull! I am entitled to my opinion as are you and the others on this blog. It is a fact that the forum took place in a section of the ward where being a single mother is a common occurence. It is a fact that the forum was set up so that the people North of Howard would have an opportunity to hear the candidates. It is my opinion that Mr. Gordon was trying to play on that demographic. Why deny all of the adjectives attributed to him? Rich? Suburban? Old? Banker? Who asked at the forum? NO ONE! As I said, there were no real issues in his closing statement. It was a biography badly done. I was paying attention to the reaction of the audience by the way and I saw just as much "oh brother what crap" eye rolling as there was bobble heading for Gordon. Moxy and Balls...Quaint. Hey Sudokuist: Yes-I am a Ginderske supporter. Yes-I am a woman. Catty commentary is so typical of what I picture you to be. I have NO shame in being of the age that saw "The Jerk" at the 400 the FIRST time around. Smile while you sip your saucer of milk dear.
One more thing about audience reaction. I'll bet that the "report card" on this forum will indicate that no one bought the dog and pony show the other candidates displayed. It is getting harder and harder to diffentiate Mr. Gordon from Mr. Adams. Mr. Moore is a rehash of the same old stuff and really should be more careful when calling on people to look at his record for the past 16 years. Mr. Ginderske has the best record of community activism. He has the best vision and a viable plan which can be accessed on his website www.jimgrp.com I'm sure that all three of the other candidates have read it so I won't take up space with a rehash. Also, I have raised my child as a single mother in this community. I have dealt with the incumbent on some issues and have also had the opportunity to interact with two of the challengers. Jim Ginderske is the most qualified. Don Gordon lost my vote when he first declared his exploratory actions to run. He was saying the same stuff then that he is now. Unrealistic solutions to problems and playing on people's fear. Fear breeds more fear not to mention a community mired in the past instead of forward looking. Mr. Adams has the same M.O. They will cancel each other out like cats in a bag.

That's right...this blog is all hearts, flowers, and sentiment.I think I'll listen to some Hank Williams to melt my cold...cold heart even further.
