* Hey CTA Tattler, Where's Joe Moore Now?

{Bumped again for discussion} On the heels of a second mass transit Doomsday, where's lying Joe Moore on the CTA issue now? Maybe Kevin O'Neil can explain to us what Joe Moore is thinking on one of his blogs?

Did you hear the Alderman complain about Block 37 and funding? The CTA super-station. Well, besides getting an earful from Frank on inaccurate information, I thought we'd share with you a few more facts to check on Alderman Moore and block 37.

Current Alderman Joe Moore voted in favor of a $42,350,000 public subsidy from the Central Loop TIF to the downtown SuperStation at Block 37. Now 6 weeks before an election he is issuing press releases calling for an investigation into how this happened!

Alderman Takes on CTA Troubles
Guest: Alderman Joe Moore—49th Ward
We talk with Joe Moore about deteriorating CTA service and what he hopes to do about it.
Listen

848 host Steve Edwards: What do you hope to gain from these hearings exactly?

Moore: We want to shed light on the funding decisions made by the CTA.

WE AT THE "BROKEN HEART WANT TO SHED LIGHT ON THE FUNDING DECISIONS MADE BY JOE MOORE

Moore: We need to have a 1st class rail system, not a 3rd world rail system.

WE NEED A 1ST CLASS ALDERMAN

Moore: ... look at the CTA's spending priorities. The CTA, according to their own budget, plans to spend, in the next 5 years, over $385M just to FINANCE the cost of the SuperStation. Not to build it - to finance the cost.

Steve: That's the Block 37 SuperStation?

Moore: Exactly. Downtown. ... We need to find out exactly WHY they're deciding to engage in those kinds of spending priorities rather than taking care of the basics.

BECAUSE YOU VOTED FOR IT, YOU DAMN FOOL

Steve: What do you think the priorities should be?

Moore: The priorities should be fixing up some of the stations in the neighborhoods so that people who are navigating the Morse or Jarvis EL stations in my neighborhood don't have to put up with urine smells in the stairwells and leaky roofs.

WE COULDN'T AGREE MORE, JOE! NOW ALL WE NEED IS AN
ALDERMAN WHO AGREES.

Moore voted FOR it before he was AGAINST IT

Here is a link to Joe Moore voting for the City-CTA intergovernmental agreement to funnel $42,350,000 from the Central Loop TIF to the SuperStation:

Chicago City Council, May 11, 2005

AUTHORIZATION FOR EXECUTION OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY CONCERNING TRANSFER OF TAX INCREMENT FINANCING FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF AIRPORT CHECK-IN FACILITY, STATION FACILITY AND OFF-BLOCK IMPROVEMENTS AT 108 NORTH STATE STREET (BLOCK 37)

Yeas -- Aldermen Flores, Haithcock, Tillman, Hairston, Lyle, Beavers, Stroger, Beale, Pope, Balcer, Cardenas, Olivo, Burke, T. Thomas, Coleman, L. Thomas, Murphy, Rugai, Troutman, Brookins, Munoz, Zalewski, Chandler, Solis, Ocasio, E. Smith, Carothers, Reboyras, Suarez, Matlak, Mell, Austin, Colon, Mitts, Allen, Laurino, O'Connor, Doherty, Natarus, Daley, Tunney, Levar, Shiller, Schulter, M. Smith, Moore, Stone -- 47.

Nays -- Alderman Preckwinkle -- 1.

Where was your concern for CTA funding of neighborhood stations May, 2005, Joe?

Preckwinkle has more balls than you and Munoz put together.

Why didn't you issue press releases and call for hearings back then?

The election too far off?

So Joe - call hearings and investigate YOURSELF. Call yourself as a 1st witness and ask yourself "How did this happen?" When you figure yourself out, report back to us. Meanwhile, unless you are willing to explain your 2005 vote, please do us all a favor and shut the f*** up about the SuperStation.

Attention candidates:

Yesterday we received the Gordon response to Alderman Moore's CTA grand-standing. I had to pressure Gindreske to respond and got no response from Adams.

While the general, "not in the know" voting public may find the press releases all 'well and good' - the 'Broken Heart' wants you guys to dig deeper in your research on the subjects.

They all were like you looked in past newspaper and blog stories with vague figures attached and rushed a release out for a little grand-standing of your own.

When sending press releases. Be original. Have facts and figures, with hard data back-up. And solutions.

* Why was Alderman Moore in-effective in his duties on this matter? Did you look at his past voting record on the matter?

Not one of the press releases mentioned anything about *you*, as a *Alderman*, and how you would carefully study the annual budget's (hopefully with a fine-tooth comb) - and not just 'rubber stamp' a vote yea on them if you feel something's not right.

I'm wondering if Alderman Moore was even paying attention to the 2005 or 2006 CTA Superstation budget hearings and meetings to ask questions back then?

After all, according to the dozens of newspaper stories we've scoured, his real 'track record' shows he was too busy saving the duck and goose population to worry about spending at the CTA and it's problems.

Legally, what authority does the City Council have over the CTA?

I wouldn't be suprised if JoMo is trying to overstep the boundaries of his "authority."

A Letter from Your Alderman:

The 49th Ward continues to be a model of how an economically, racially and culturally diverse community can re-develop, grow and flourish. I am proud of how we listen to one another and respect each other as we work together to bring about positive, thoughtful change to our community.

Together we have demonstrated that responsible development with strong community input can support exciting new businesses. We have succeeded in increasing home ownership opportunities and preserving the residential character of our neighborhood while still providing long-term affordable and senior housing, and respecting the retail needs of all incomes and ethnic communities.

Residents of the 49th Ward are diligent about reporting city service needs and that helps us stay on top of the neighborhood infrastructure needs. My staff fields over 500 calls and 200 emails each week from residents in need of city services, information or assistance.

We are a community that believes in working together for peace and justice, both locally and in the larger world. The work is not done, but together we have made great strides.

Calls for a house cleaning at City Hall come from within
July 27, 2005

Federal investigators aren't the only ones demanding a house cleaning at City Hall -- its own residents are now calling for a sweep-up, with Aldermen Ricardo Munoz (22nd) and Joe Moore (49th) leading the way. ...

Paradise's post is correct. The city uses its grants to the CTA as a weopon to coerce the strapped agency into going along with costly monument-building projects to the detriment of the service we badly need.

The largest cause of waste at the CTA is the baroque bureaucracy, in that no fewer that five taxing authorities and an oversight board overlap each other and make conflicting demands.
