* Alderman Moore Leads Battle to Defeat Mayor Daley

In his own words - "For the first time in 40 years that a man named Daley has ruled the City of Chicago, I led the battle to defeat that Mayor!
Alderman Joe Moore
49th Ward Alderman

Blgonotes: Can anyone tell us what battle Alderman Moore won over Mayor Daley?

Well it's the thought that counts. If there was any more to that clip it probably could be said that he never said he defeated the mayor. He just said that he lead a battle to defeat the mayor. And probably lost too.

Joe won in his own mind. He got what he wanted: he got his talking point out of it. That's all that matters to him. That the legislation did not pass is immaterial to him. Living wages, social justice, etc. are poses for Joe Moore.

At the federal level, you might hear the President tell the press,

"If that bill passes without a such-and-such provision, I will veto it."

And if Congress went ahead and bull-dogged it through, we would think, "What a waste of time." We would EXPECT our representatives to sit down and work things out and pass a bill that MIGHT ACTUALLY BECOME LAW

But Moore "leads" the effort to pass a doomed ordinance, and now he demands we recognize him as a Historically Great Leader. It was stunt vote that might be mildly amusing in a first-term legislator struggling for a re-election platform, but is entirely unattractive in a senior legislator.

Hugh, At the federal level?
So now when you go after a position you deeply believe in, you shouldn't go after it if you can't get the bill passed. So when civil rights bills first hit the floor in the early 1960s they were to be ignored and ridiculed because they couldn't yet pass yet?(after a few rounds with the water cannon, well you know the story) It was just a stunt from liberal congressional types because they were just showboating like you accuse the Alderman, hmm.

The only thing Joe Moore believes deeply in is Joe Moore.
