Alderman Moore (49-non-fighter) is not meeting the "bare-bones" infrastructure needs of his Rogers Park neighborhood. There is a are vast disparity between the top 10 and bottom 10 wards when it comes to money alloted. The 42nd Ward receives over 10 times more planned investment than Alderman Moore's 49th Ward, which ranks 47th out of 50 on the list. All wards are not created equal.
Blognotes: The Neighborhood Capital Budget Group approximated that a typical ward needs about $4.8 million per year for its basic infrastructure such as sewers, water mains, arterial streets, traffic signals, residential streets, sidewalks, alleys, and lighting.
They compared that figure to the total basic infrastructure allocations and found that even if we assumed that wards getting at least $4 million were keeping up with deteriorating infrastructure, only five of the 50 wards received enough money to keep their basic infrastructure from crumbling. The 49th ward is not one of the wards receiving enough money.

Where's Ald. Moore? Standing outside the Morse El stop, making people late for work.
Doesn't do anything other than greet people. No, "I'm Joe Moore." no, "I'm running for re-election." Just a guy with a sign behind him and him saying "good morning" and "hello" to everybody who blows past him not paying attention.
I stopped and asked him why I should vote for him. His answer? A "16 year record of being an outside voice in the city council" and bringing "a community center" to the neighborhood.
I asked why it has taken 10 years and counting to bring that community center, and he said "well, you know, these things take time with the beaurocracy". I asked about the CTA hearings he promised and he said Daley shut him down, saying no CTA hearings before the election.
I guess that's the peril of being an outside voice.
I didn't have a chance to bitch about the two dumb ordinances he pimped last year, because I was already late for work.
Oh yeah, as I walked into the crumbling decaying el stop that joe moore has done nothing to rebuild, some guy walking in behind me yelled "Joe Moore's a loser!"
Probably right ... but at least he's out there talking to people. I have yet to see any of the other three guys pounding the pavement.

That's certainly a key tenet of the Mythology of Joe Moore.
Moore has no leadership role in City Council, never has, because Mayor Daley doesn't like him. Yeah, right. The other Aldermen LOVE his ass and respect his leadership, it's DALEY that doesn't like him.
Moore is NOT an "outside voice." Moore is a rubber stamp alderman just like the rest. Moore's voting record in City Council agrees with the most machine hack alderman you can think of 99.999% of the time.
Whadda ya want, 49th Ward? An alderman who bucks the system or one who takes care of the ward? Moore is NEITHER, but he claims to be the former by way of explaining his lack of accomplishment. As if the residents of the ward given a choice would PREFER an alderman who opposes the war and stand up for ducks even if it meant crappy parks.

Unlike Moore, the other three candidates have private-sector employment and must maintain the hours their employers demand. Moore, on the other hand, can use his ample free time to campaign to keep the job he has spent so little time actually doing. While Joe is standing outside the el station, the others are commuting to their jobs.
Moore also has the incumbant's advantage in attracting donors, and has money to pay people to pound the pavement, while the other candidates must rely upon volunteer labor.
As for the community center that Joe takes credit for, it is thanks only to the unrelenting efforts of a handful of citizens who had to pressure Moore relentlessly, that is is here. If it had neen left up to Moore, it wouldn't be here.
So Hugh, please explain how the idea of being a committee chairman agrees with your constant harping that you need to pay attention only to the ward?
Did you look to see if any of these at the top are geographically large or have major government institutions or maybe they are downtown?
North Coast, I bet you cannot tell me where any of the three are employed. You want to know why? Because they don't have current employment. Maybe they need a living wage job. But they do not have any reason they cannot be at some train or bus stop everyday.

I have seen Gordon and Ginderske at the Howard El. It's difficult to see who's meeting and greeting from the train about 40 feet in the air on all stops. All the candidates have been hitting the streets. We have in Larry the remnants of the ProMo from the old Forum49.
As for their jobs, what about Joe's job? Has he been doing it? Look at the stop light question asked at the ONE forum...when asked if a stop light could be placed at a busy intersection near a school...Joe piped up that 'it will be there NEXT year'. Next year has a really bad habit of turning into Ten Years Later.
I was one of the 'instigators' who delivered the letter to the Mayor about 'where's our field house or rather, where's the money'. Joe finally had to answer to the boss the Mayor. Ten fricking years to transfer property and get zoned properly. It doesn't take that long to get a tear down, build up done does it?

Joe often makes me late for work. What with the pastries and giggles and all.
I went looking for the community center today but I couldn't find it. Joe had a hard time explaining to me the difference of what He tells the public He does versus what He actually does.
He actually does very little - this is what makes Him a great machine politician. But He does talk to the people as they enter the El to go to their daily jobs. Joe doesn't really have a daily job until an election year.
During an election year, a couple of months before people vote, Joe works very hard to be noticed. That's it. He explained that it's a very fun thing to be alderman. He gets to do what He wants and He doesn't want to give it up.
In fact, IF He gets re-elected this year, He will get His pension. Don't we all want to pay for Joe to retire?
This is just my thought on Joe having to stand outside in the cold so He can talk to people. For the first time in 4 years. Again.
I am proud of Him.
Larry, Don Gordon is employed as an IT manager at a bank in Glenview. He is a 30 year resident of this area, has owned his home here for 25 years, and has been a major participant in community affairs for nearly that long.
I do not know where Adams works, and Ginderske is, I'm told, successfully self-employed, by which I mean he is said to make an acceptable living by self-employment.
In any case, the three don't necessarily have all day to campaign, don't have the money to pay platoons of other people to do it, and in all other ways lack the incumbancy advantage.
Yet in spite of that lack, I'm betting that one or the other will kick Joe's duff this election, thanks to the negative publicity Joe has generated for himself with his nonsensical initiatives and resolutions. It would take mucho $$$ to buy the positive publicity that would be equal in impact to the negative attention Joe has drawn on himself.

As far as Moores bad publicity, don't over estimate yourselves. The blogs get about what 600 hits while there are thousands of voters in the 49th a tiny tiny percentage of voters read the local blogs. So brace yourselfs for status quo

Also it can't go unmentioned that I post a lot, northcoast, toni (does it count when it's your blog?), hugh, duhm blonde, all everyday post-sters but what a small number for the discussion. Even though we disagree I tell everybody about the BH, 24/7 watchers etc. Still it's a small circle of discussion, why do you think that is, given the critical issues in the ward?

Joe's idiotic ordinances and resolutions have, fortunately, made him suddenly visible to the 49,000 or so residents of the 49th ward who do not follow these blogs.
Nobody in the area paid much attention to Joe before the initiatives that made him known all over the country, such as the fois gras ordinance.
Now, he is known not only all over the world, but even the sleepy-headed residents of the 49th are now paying attention, and they aren't pleased. They can see that while the slumification of the area proceeds apace, and the violent crime with it, that their alderman is courting rich celebrities on the west coast and in Great Britain, and he's doing it with the taxpayer's money. And, frankly, they don't care what people like Loretta Swit or Paul McCartney, or the residents of York, England, think. I don't care, either.
I wondered what it would take to wake people around here up.
