* David Fagus Responds With More Spin - Not Substance

David Fagus says....> "In the Primary election the members of the Democratic party of the 49th Ward (by more than 66% of the vote) voted to endorse John Stroger for President. I also felt we should have supported him. I believed at the time that he was the best candidate and even though only with hindsight it was clear he would not be able to serve, it was everyones wish that the John Stroger would be okay and would serve the term. The truth is that almost nobody knew the truth and I definitely didn't know he would never be the same.

Once he resigned, which I had absolutely no input into, there were ultimately two choices in the race to fill the vacancy of John Stroger. One was Todd Stroger. The other was Danny Davis. There was no third choice. In spite of what many refuse to believe, there was never an opportunity for it to be Forrest Claypool. As someone who ran and lost in the Primary election our state law forbade Claypool from running in the general election.

As far as neighborhood support goes, there was never even a single call from anyone, including Congressman Davis himself, asking me to support Davis. There was no support for Davis and there was minimal support for Stroger, but those were the choices. The election results from November clearly show that the voters of the ward were willing to give Todd Stroger a chance. The basic truth is that I stood with the people on this selection as the election results show. I don't know what the results would have shown for Davis, maybe not much difference at all, but we still would have had these problems with County government no matter who won.

The whole process of replacing a candidate is not one that is friendly to the publics input, but it has been the process for a very long time. It is not a process determined by the Committeemen. It is a matter of state law. Issues regarding this matter should be addressed to the state legislature if you would like to see changes in the law. I could be supportive of some changes, but without knowing what they might be it is difficult to say with certainty.

Blognotes: Dear Mr. Fagus. Your little fascist group is not the majority of the ward.

Actual 49th Ward, March 2006 Democratic vote totals: 4849 cast votes.

Forrest Claypool - 2800 - 57.74%

John H. Stroger - 2049 - 42.26%

Now I know why the county hospital is such sad shape the chief operating officer can not read nor count.

Mr. Fagus,

Please link us to the site showing who the 49th ward members are and how they voted.

Thanks in advance.

Losing is not losing, it means the loser "should be given chance"?

Do the election results from last Tuesday clearly show that the voters of the ward should give Don Gordon a chance?
