Voters face deadline to register for April 17

Tribune, March 30, 2007

CHICAGO -- Residents have until Tuesday to register to vote in Chicago's aldermanic runoff elections, officials said.

A "grace-period" program allows residents to register and cast a ballot in Election Board headquarters at 69 W. Washington St., Suite 600, election officials said. A dozen wards are having runoffs April 17.

The headquarters will be open additional hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday to accommodate last-minute voters, said Board Chairman Langdon D. Neal. The April 3 deadline for grace-period registration is "critical" for voters in Wards 2, 3, 15, 16, 18, 21, 24, 32, 35, 43, 49 and 50, which have the runoff elections, Langdon said.

More than 5,000 people have registered since the Feb. 27 election, officials said.
