Thank you, Hugh and Craig, for the post and this link.

We should have deposed Daley a long time ago, but no one has wanted to take on this extremely entrenched pol.

The worst thing is that Daley has also won the blessings of the liberals and 'greenies' for his 'green' window-dressing. Chicago is on the list of the ten 'greenest' cities in the country, and environmentalists are singing Daley's praises for our water-conservation programs and green initiatives.

"The Great Green Augustus", as one worshipful writer called him, has gulled the 'green' crowd thoroughly by his 'green roof' initiatives and other such 'eco-conscious' fluff, while steadfastly refusing to fund our decrepit transit. Yet there is nothing that could make a greater contribution to the comfort and liveability of the city in the coming era of chronic fuel shortage that an efficient transit system such as Chicago used to have, and nothing could do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the meantime.

Daley is dedicated to the big-money crowd downtown, and to raping the general public to pay for monument-building, such as the obscenely wasteful $216 MM superstation on block 37, and to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars to big money developers via TIF districts and other massive 'gimmes'for his fat-cat constributors, at the expense of necessary city services, and public amenities that would benefit all of us, notably the poor and near-poor, who are mostly stranded in neighborhoods with very poor transit service and have no access to jobs and education becuase of this.

But how will we get this monster out of our house? This guy is one of the most powerful and deeply entrenched pols in the country. Voters city-wide see him as a bulwark of stability and are thrilled with all the surface prettification he has brought to downtown. Rivals have a hard time attracting contributors because Daley is seen as unbeatable.
