* Westgard Caught With City Sign

You'd think a lawyer like Thomas Westgard would know better. Apparently not. Today Joe Moore minion Thomas Westgard was caught with a public works - 'Senior Crossing' sign and pole in the back of his pick-up truck.

That's some nasty prank to play on some poor seniors, don't you think?

Sure, Westgard will come up with one of his classic attorney type rebuttals. I can hear it now. He'll claim he was out cleaning up a dried up creek-bed somewhere - and came upon it accidently. Maybe he'll use the lame, "Someone else did it" excuse? And I doubt Joe hired Westgard as the 49th ward weekend sign installer. So that excuse won't work.

So, with that, Westgard then decided to toss it in the back of his pick-up as a personal souvenir.

If Westgard really wanted to follow the right steps, he would've called 311 and let them know about what kind of sign he found and where the sign was located when he found it. If he really wanted to go through the right channels, he would've let Streets and Sanitation do their job. Instead, Westgard loaded the 'Warning - Senior Crossing' sign in the back of his red truck.

Then we have violation number two. Look how the senior crossing sign sticks out from the back of the pick-up, without any warning of a extended load. Any trucker knows that. So why is Mr. Westgard flaunting such blatant violations of the law? Does Mr. Westgard believe he's above the law because he helped Joe Moore during the election season? And what is Mr. Westgard's plans for the Senior Crossing sign?

I hope Westgard does the right thing and turns the 'Senior Crossing' sign in to the proper authorities. These signs cost the tax payers money - and when missing, could cause a accident. But first he better put a red flag on the back of the extended load before he causes a accident.

Craig, you crack me up. I didn't used to wonder what the deal with you is. I had dismissed you for all sorts of reasons, mostly that you're petty and obsessive. That you can't wait for the neighborhood to gentrify and that you aren't interested in the deeper issues. But as I've been getting more and more bored with thinking about the deeper issues, I have to say that you are reliably entertaining.

I have a question for you, were you out on Clean and Green the Ward Day planting your planters in a Streets and San uniform? If so, where did you get it? Are you or were you a Streets and San worker?

From Westgard's blog, about him and his friends cleaning up the Chciago River today:

"Working in a morass of water that smelled of sewage for about four hours, we pulled about a full dumpster-load of trash out of the river, including a few hundred pounds of steel and a "Senior Citizens Crossing" sign, complete with pole."

Find someone else to attack. Maybe Coe's fence is down again?

With all due respect, I wasn't kidding or mocking Craig here, it changes from time to time who pisses me off. Craig gave some good reasons why he wouldn't pursue a legislative agenda for the liquor stores even though he despises a few of them. He really amused me with his critique of Thomas. Obviously Thomas recovered, but I'm starting to think Craig is smart and entertaining and my questions are just curiosity.

Long time reader, first time commenter. I think this is the one that pushed me over the edge, just for the sheer malice behind it. I'm with paradise -- you provide a huge service to the community with your blog. And since I'm new to the neighborhood, I pretty much only know you (Craig) and Mr. Westgard through your respective blogs. I'm not sure of the reasons for the bad blood between you (I guess I need to catch up on back issues of the "Hell Hole"). But are you seriously going to accuse a well-known neighborhood figure of pulling a college prank like yanking a "senior citizen crossing" sign from the ground? Dude ... I think that's a bit much.

Yes, little paradise, it's obviously Craig keeps you around for entertainment purposes. Every couple of month's a newbie shows up and they make the same kind of comments. Eventually, they get bored with this nonsense or disgusted with Craig. Then he starts bouncing them off the board.

But don't worry. You still have entertainment value. You're cute and will survive.

I think he sneaks around the neighborhood where seniors hang out and he waits for some little old senior gal to be totaly confused, when she sees the sign on the ground, my she saids to herself do I cross? what do I do, the sign is on the ground and I'm a senor and thererfore a complete idiot.

And BAM Tommy comes out behind the fire hydrant in his spiderman outfit and recues the senor or takes her back to his place, ha cha cha cha.

Oops Craig, you owe poor Tom an apology. Streets and San will not pick up on weekends, so maybe Tom was dropping it off.

BTW, where can we find Westgard's blog?

Hi lafew. Craig does not owe Thomas an apology. Odds are Thomas is enjoying the attention and Craig's nit picking IS very clever. Sometimes its difficult to pull up a blog with the search engine. It takes time for the site to build up relevance. You can help other blogs to come up in the search engines by linking to them. An odd roundabout way to find Westgard is to click on his name wherever he leaves comments and his profile will appear. At the bottom is a list of his blogs. Choose the one that says Rogers Park Rake, the one that says The Rogers Park Rake is empty. Theres all sorts of ways to find Thomas Westgard comments so you can click on his name. You can click on my name and my blog will show up in my profile. Select the 6 comments under the chicken/rabbit fight entry and near the end you will find Thomas. Click on his name and you will find his blogs.
