Vanessa over at
Rogers Park Forever gives Toni Duncan an earful in her latest blogpost. Basically Vanessa is calling Toni a tired, old, wornout, wasted hippie. Vanessa thinks Toni should move her loser hippie ass out of Rogers Park. Personally, I think Toni is okay and Vanessa is a nutcase. What do you think?

I, for one, love Toni's blog -- I go to her site every day hoping for new content. I find her posts interesting, informed, and insightful; knowing there are people like Toni out there sustains my hope for a better future in Rogers Park.
As for Vanessa, I find her to be the opposite of Toni. For the sake of decency, that's all I'll say.
Toni has more insight than the majority of folks who are writing blogs in Rogers Park or posting comments to other people's blogs. She takes the trouble to do good research, raises relevant topics that some are afraid to touch, and works hard to solve problems. Vanessa does not.
They are both crazy to opposite degrees. Neither has a great sense of reality.
Toni's posts often do have depth to them. They are probably too sophisticated and nuanced for certain people to comprehend. I'm not naming names though.
I don't see Toni as making the blatant generalizations that Vanessa's post cites either.
Toni is part of the solution, and Vanessa is part of the problem.
Sure, Toni bought the place because she couldn't have bought something comparable in a trendy neighborhood. Perhaps Toni feels,as I do, that you should not have to be affluent to live in a neighborhood that isn't overrun with blight and crime, and she possibly feels that poverty does not necessarily equal crime and blight. It doesn't in other countries, and it hasn't always in this country.
I'm in the same age bracket, and I remember when working-class city nabes were the backbone of the city, and when poverty didn't automatically mean blight and crime.
Duncan has been a force for the good in NOH, and she has been a driving force behind projects whose principal beneficiaries are the poor of NOH. For example, Toni doesn't need the field house at Gale Park, but she pushed hard for it, even though the main beneficiaries will be the poor children of NOH, who she is concerned about.
Vannessa has a lot of learning to do about what it takes to build a civil neighborhood, let alone an entire civilization.

I had too much to say so I said it over at The Living Room.
Hate-filled rants are not the answer, and I did not see that on Toni's blog. See my comment to Vanessa's posting on her blog.
It saddens me when there is deliberate misreading and and twisting of words and ideas. How are we going to improve things with that kind of divisive approach?
why should Toni care what Vanessa (paradise)says?
Vanessa is nothing more than a troll trying to once again self promote herself.
i value Toni's site not only for its political insights of Rogers Park and Chicago, but for her keen observations of the happenings NOH.
Glad she is my neighbor. :)
PAR-A-SITE n. Vanessa, who lives at the expense of others without making any useful contribution or return; hanger-on.

I don't know which one of you to insult next....nevermind, suddenly I'm in the mood to strut.
Parasite, Since you're ready to strut why don't you head down Morse or Howard and smash a few windows, loosen your belt and release a load of poo on the steps of the soup kitchen, spray paint the youth center, punch a 72-year old in face, rip down a few trees? Come on Parasite, do some of your "good" for the neighborhood.
How do you spell cojones? T-O-N-I
That lady's got more than 95% of the wimpo-s in Rogers Park .... Got more in her pinkie than Joe Moore - that's for sure.
If there's anyone we could live without in this neighborhood (other than Joe Mo himself) it would be the likes of Vanessa ... what a lap dog .....
