Joe Moore, you have a serious problem my friend. It's not just me anymore pal. They're coming at you from all directions. You got a host of other caring neighbors who are wearing thin on your serious lack of attention to the 49th ward.
I think the author of that article gets it right -- a big part of the problem in areas such as Damen / Rogers and Howard Street is landlords who ask exorbitant lease or selling prices. Since nobody will meet their demands, they let their property sit and wait for the boom that they think is sure to come.
I don't know if the laws are different in Chicago, but in Evanston it seems like there is little legal recourse for such cases. What bothers me is that these slumlords might just get what they want if the new developments going up along Howard do indeed start to turn the area around.
