* Now this is Hilarious
Just looking at this bunch, you'd think, wow, a group of kid's out enjoying a summer's day. That depends on what you call enjoy. I followed these little goodie-two-shoes around the Goldberg Playlot at Greenleaf and Glenwood.
As the fun bunch moved west on Greenleaf, they spent their time whacking things along the way. Shurbs, trees, public gardens, light posts and even this car in the above photo. If Marcy were around, she would've found this funny.
As they approached the corner of Morse and Greenview, the kid in the black t-shirt took time to whack his friend (blue shirt) in the leg. I'm sure Marcy would've been cracking up by now.
I went down to the CeaseFire office at 1409 West Morse thinking I could get the older kids to go down and give these little thugs in the making a talking to. Big brother type of thing, you know. Well, the older kids hanging out in the CeaseFire office, (un-monitored by a supervisor) didn't want to get involved in those kids issues of destruction. As one older kids who had twenty or so CeaseFire bumper stickers stuck to his t-shirt put it, "those kids been trouble since they was young."
Isn't that hilarious Marcy?

Reminds me of some of the mischief my friends and I pulled when we were kids. But then, we didn't often make a game out of damaging property. In those days, you could get smacked by an adult that was not your parent. I miss those days.
I'm surprised that CeaseFire people didn't want to get involved. Maybe because guns weren't involved they felt it wasn't worth their time?
And b/c there's always the fear that they'll cap your ass no one will go up to them. They've carved out a pretty sweet deal for themselves, haven't they? And then, few years down the road, will they be in productive worthwhile positions as college students working on earning a degree? Something tells me no. Just the next generation well on it's way to being the next Morse street gang bangers and drug sellers.
gotta love the one in the light blue picking his ass. very attractive.
When I asked the CeaseFire kid to go down with me, he said, "why, you want to get smacked?" Then he went on to say, " those ni**rs are bad!
That about summed it up. Did I mention, there was no CeaseFire supervisor on duty? Just 5 or 6 kids hanging out in Harry Osterman's office. With nothing to do.
sounds like ceasefire is really effective. isn't the point of the older kids to show the younger ones that they don't have to become gangbangers? it's scary and sad that even these older kids are scared of the younger ones. shouldn't the older ones have more power?
if this is how effective programs are in RP, it's no wonder that these gangs are free to roam and cause chaos and destruction.
if only we lived somewhere nice and safe like the suburbs, where children never do things like get in a car and take a baseball bat to any property they can hit from the roadside as they drive by.
Or light each other's arms on fire with disassembled lighters.
Kids do dumb stuff everywhere.
So, this is okay with you then?
Yes dbt are you saying it shouldn't be addressed? Large groups of young kids should not be roaming neighborhoods unsupervised and damaging property. I mean, come on- who disagrees with that?
Alright, I have to ask ...
"Where are the parents at?"
Isn't it their job to mold the kiddies into law-abiding citizens and productive members of society?
In short, Operation CeaseFire should be taken care of by the parents instead of some irresponsible teenagers.
also on that note:
The bumper stickers and circle prayers don't seem to be working.
""Kids do dumb stuff everywhere. ""
hmm, now when a kid forgets their keys, thats dumb, when a kid eats too much candy thats pretty dumb.
smashing windows and gooning isn't dumb, its criminal.
but if these kids were just swatting at stuff yeah thats what kids do,
what i do when i see a group of kids that look on the edge of destruction, i generally ask them hey whats up, or is everything alright? said in a matter of fact tone. kids then know they are being watch so they shouldn't do more then swat, but also when I ask I'm not accusing them of goonie patrol.
talk about dumb when i was a kid we were wild in lakeview, you don't even want to know what we did. we were definately on the fast track to hell.
Did I mention, there was no CeaseFire supervisor on duty? Just 5 or 6 kids hanging out in Harry Osterman's office. With nothing to do.
Should that space be open without adult supervison? What is Cease Fire's policy on this?
Do Harry Osterman and the others still maintain office space there, or is it entirely Cease Fire space now?
DBT is just dumb. Stick to the Bears.
yeah, atleast cease fire is trying to make a difference while you all sit on your asses checking you email.
