Updated 12:00 PM: A "Broken Heart' reader who lives near the tree just e-mailed me to let me know this breaking news. The tree limb featured today was cut down quickly after the story appeared. Our park watcher wanted to thank both the 'Broken Heart' and the Park district employees for attending to this matter.
I could add the endless links to the woefully neglected problems that never get fixed in Loyola Park. But that would distract from todays problem. Or should I say, this isn't a problem that just happened today. This is a problem that has been left totally unattended, for weeks now.
This broken tree branch is a serious danger and no one cares. It may look like nothing up close, but if you've seen the entire branch of this tree, you'll see how much of a danger it really is. It's located at the very east end of Lunt Avenue.
* What if, a someone, say a young child, was under this branch and it collapsed on top of them?
* What if, someone tried climbing the broken limbs and fell, sending them crashing to the ground?
* What if, a mugger/robber or rapist was hiding in it's underbrush, just waiting to attack a helpless and unsuspecting victim?
All these what ifs' have happened before in real life. But under Joe Moore's helm, issues of public safety are no concern of him. And that's no lie.
As I just mentioned, this broken tree branch hold many dangers - and it's up to us to protect ourselves. We can't count on Joe Moore. He's too busy getting some petition signed - or hand-delivering some meaningless resolution somewhere. It looks like I'll need to rent or borrow a chain-saw - and do the job myself.
BLOGNOTES: To those clueless commenters that leave the silly comments about me just contacting Joe Moore. Please, If I called him or e-mailed him, and asked him for a quote or reason why this hasn't been taken care of - I'd get some bullshit line, like this. "If we could pull the troops out of Iraq, I'd have money to cut and remove this broken branch for you."

All you have to do is look at the trees in other wards to see the neglect here. Go ride through Edgewater or West Rogers Park to see that the trees are trimmed regularly posing no dangers to the people who live here. Now look around at the trees here. Some are half dead. Many have branches ready to drop. The locust trees require regular trimming due to the large amount of die-off. Why doesn't Joe see the things the rest of us do> Oh.... right..... because he is never around and keeps his head up his ass.
I have called his office numerous times to get trees trimmed on our block telling them that they pose a danger and the next big snow is going to be hazardous. What's a person to do?
been here all my life said: "Whats'a a person to do?
Answear: Next election DON'T VOTE FOR JOE MOORE!!!
Perhaps calling 311 would help. This is a issue of public safety in a public park. Remember to get the file number and then refer to it in two days if the problem hasn't been taken addressed.
Just bypass the alderman's office and call 311 or use the on-line 311 request site.
I have used it many times for tree issue, stops signs that were run down by a car, street lights out even overflowing dumpsters and building without locks on the doors.
Everytime I put in a request the problem was addressed within a couple weeks.
What I don't understand, is why they fixed the disgusting muddy holes along the path to the left of the tennis courts (end of Farwell), but didn't bother doing anything with the rest of the disgusting muddy holes that are all through the park along the paths.
Obviously these holes are caused by cop cars, and while I'm glad that at least some surveillance is happening (esp at night), it would be nice if we didn't have to deal with the mess left over afterwards.
Not to mention that standing water is a natural breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The correct and proper procedure is to call 311, that's all the Ward office does when you refer a problem to them anyway.
They "want" you to call the Ward office so as to make it look like you need them to get things done, and that they are getting things done for you. Hogwash, call 311, get the ID number, and follow up as already described on this blog.
The house next to Joe's on Fargo had a half broken limb, which came down and was completely blocking the sidewalk on Fargo yesterday.
Now I would assume that the obligation is on the homeowner to contact the city and can't say if an evening storm took this limb down.
However, I witnessed this at 3:30 in the afternoon and you would think someone would have attended to this issue by then. Especially on the alderman's block!
Ryne: I haven't EVER voted for Joe Moore. Don't make assumptions.
i live here too. I disagree. There are times when the Alderman's office can intervene and expedite matters. For example, my Dad lives in Lakeview and complained to Tom Tunney's office that the businesses behind his property had overflowing garbage. Shortly thereafter, tickets were issued. The owner told my Dad in the future, call him first and he will take care of it. How did this happen? Through the Alderman's office.
I believe the Alderman's office can elevate issues up the priority list if they wish to and I have seen it happen in our Ward also.
I'm going to go out on a limb and ask a question to some of you: When you ask these things of the Ward office, do you do so with courtesy and a little respect? or are you salty and all vinegar? I'm just asking because sometimes it seems that way.
I know what happens in Customer Service environments when someone calls up and is a real jerk. It's called "bottom of the pile."
I am not one to say the Alderman's office can't use improvement on matters, however, I realize that the life of public service ain't no tea party and I try to be polite to the people there because I want them to help me.
Even me, a blogger who has posted diatribes on why I didn't vote for Joe Moore, gets responses to my requests. I wonder if it's because I ask nicely. Just a thought.
I've usually had better luck with 311. When Kevin Cosgrove was still working for Joe, there were times when I politely requested his help with a situation that needed to be expedited, and he was very helpful.
Once a few years ago, there was a huge tree branch about to fall across Paulina near Fargo, large enough to crush a car and block the street. I called 311 and explained that it was an emergency situation and gave details. A city crew came out to trim the tree the same day.
craig,
i would be happy to lend you my chain saw, and even a ladder. just promise me that i can watch. the mere thought of you falling out of a tree with a running chain saw makes me swoon.
been here all my life: sorry about how that read, I didn't mean the statment I made to reference that you voted for joey boy.
I meant it that the voters shouldn't be voteing for joey.
You have lived in RP much longer then myself from your blog name, I have been here almost 6ys and from all I have read on Craig blog stoties of 16yrs of joey doing nothing about the issues brought up here on the Broken Heart, I really can not see how people can vote for joey. His attitude alone (see Craig viedeos) makes you see that he cares less about the voters, why should he joey boy has a job until the next election, when once again he will fake concearn and dust off all his projects to run by the voters.
We all need to WAKE UP joe moore cares about joe moore, Not about the people of the ward!!
Next major story
Joe Moore is a Gravel Hoarder
and stores his Gravel on Morse.
weird gravel particles are orbiting the Morse sidewalk, their radioactive qualities are amazing, killing locals' brain cells so that their presence can remain icognito, and so Joe can enjoy his rock collection,
yes its not a very imaginative rock collection, but Joe is a simpleton when it comes to rocks, he likes them white and small and hard, just like he likes his coke,
So what Oh boo Hoo Hoo, Jo Mo wont call me back.
Make an appointment you dork.
Call his Secretary during NORMAL buisness hours and then go talk to him...
Do I have to explain everything for you all?
Oh, god. "Breaking News" Tree limb taken away. Golly gee, I think I'll go watch hair cuts now.
I guess there's no real news. He Craig, you were going to the presentation on the development of those new condo's.
Oh, I guess not. I missed 'ya
