* Cut Number of Alderman in Half

With the certain rise in all sorts of taxes this year, I agree, we need to cut the number of Alderman in half. These fifty elected officials are killing us and our pocketbooks with all their self-voted raises. I'm only going to take a guess, I'm sure Joe would be a goner. Read here.

When did cranky andy rooney take over the sun-times editorial board? What's next, a discussion of how much empty space there is in vitamin bottles?

The proposal does not go far enough

If the Alderman are always going to vote unanimously on everything anyway, the optimal most efficient number from the taxpayer's perspective is 1 alderman

we need to change state law to do this

Not only do we need to cut the number of aldermen, but we need to cut the size of their staffs of overpaid aides and committeemen.

But how do we accomplish this? What's the first step here? Do we form an action group with a goal of getting this before the state legislature, or what?

Even more urgent than reducing the size of the city council is overturning the 55-year-old state law that enables TIFs, and to urge our legislators to pass laws further limiting eminent domain.
