* A Hole that Won't Go Away
Hey Craig, I read here on the blog that you expose problems that go unattended for months. Boy, have I got a problem for you. Its a forgotten hole with a pile of gravel some city workers left us on Chase, near the Red line tracks!
To the best of my knowledge, it's been this way since the summer. Is there any chance you could see if someone could get around to finishing what they started? I contacted the alderman's office and they can't seem to get the matter resolved. Man was that a waste of time. Maybe I'll have better luck if you showcase this problem on your blog?
Signed,
TIred of looking at unfinished city work on Chase!

I suggest you call 311 to report the problem. Be certain to get a tracking number so when the issue isn't resolved in 24 to 48 hours (and I'm pretty sure it won't be, unfortunately) you can call back with that tracking number for an update. At that point they should be able to provide you with a scheduled time for the completion of the repair. If not, request another tracking number and specifically ask who to call directly to make certain the issue is addressed. Then, when they provide you with that phone number call them, give them both tracking numbers, and let them know you want a follow up phone call. You won't get one, but you can let them know they were supposed to call you back when you call them a second time. Eventually, the hole will get repaired.
I know, this is a hell of a lot of work to do on your part but, believe me, it is the only way I have found to get things done from Streets and Santitation in Rogers Park. I don't know if other wards face the same delays and lack of concern we do but they definately don't seem to give a flying fig for us. Good luck.

Joe Moore excuse #1 for not fixing this hole.
Because the war in Iraq is costing us so much money, I don't have any money to fix this hole. It's the wars fault.
I have said this before , why does Alderperson Maryanne Smith have a corner on streets and sanitation. The streets are cleaned every week, winter, spring, summer and fall.
Maybe you could cruise thru Edgewater and borrow one or two or three of the workers, buy them lunch, and ask them to close up the open space. Then bring them back to their original job.
I just do not understand why less than three miles south of Rogers Park streets are clean, potholes are few, and businesses are opening meeting the demands of the community.
SURE THIS BROKEN HART BLOG POSTING WILL GET SPEEDY REPAIR-
BLOGGERS KEEP US POSTED WHEN THE REPAIR IS DONE-
I have had to spend a lot of time over there this past month working on my tenant's place. This thing is really bad. When I drive under the red line I can only use one side of the street. A couple of weeks a go I mentioned that it looked big enough to swallow a Volkswagen. On a Friday evening, I believe it was October 12th, the water department started ringing door bells around 7:30pm telling people they were shutting the water off for 5 hours due to the broken main.. There will be a lot of traffic around there tomorrow night. We always had lots of trick or treaters on Chase. God willing, everybody will be safe.
Are we sure this is a City job? It may very well be an upgrade of water/sewer service to a private home owner and not a typical City repair job.
Just a thought.....
who cares about gravel?
Gravel is a wonderful beautifying substance,
remember the gravel pile on MORSE?
its still there,
not that anyone cares,
its just less noticeable, but its right by the bus shelter,
gravel rocks!

The hole was repaired on October 25th. The reason for the delay is that the water main that was leaking was underneath the sewer line, which had to be removed to repair the water leak. As soon as a sewer crew was available they were sent there and completed the sewer repair and the concrete patch in one day.
