* What's Going On at the Newcastle Building

Hi Craig,

I passed by the Rider buildings last night and it appears that they are still quite occupied. Am I wrong in believing that they are supposed to be empty by now? Also, I was wondering if you knew what was going on with the building that's on the south west corner of North Shore Ave and Sheridan Ave?

Thanks,

Wondering in RP

BLOGNOTES: Here's what I got about 1340 West Morse/1345 West Lunt. Currently it is at 50% vacant mode according to Jocelyn. Her blog says they're looking for 100% vacancy by December 7, 2007. I haven't a clue what's going on at Northshore and Sheridan. Maybe one of my readers does? Hope this helps.

You can't evict everyone quite that fast, and it's not exactly right to do it.

There are a few legitimate people left there and they need more than a month's notice to get relocated. If 120 days is the proper notice to vacate for a condo conversion, then it ought to be for this place.

It will probably take a couple more months to get the place totally vacated. If the new ownership wants faster action, they will offer assistance and set these people up with social services that can find other places for them quickly.

Good riddance to most of the tenants in this place. However, there are many legitimate people there and hopefully they can find a better place.

Finding housing for these people would be a legitimate benefit that an organization like the despicable ACORN could offer, instead of their usual racebaiting and attack-blogging.

Hugh, do me a big favor will you. Every time you see a blog story that is about something I blogged about, but the author forgot to link up the story to my blog, would you please go on that blog and provide the same linkage in the comments section?

You can start with the blog you linked this story too.

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes we don't forget, we're just being lazy. :o)

Regarding the NorthShore building, there is a long sad story to that one involving litigation and mean spiritedness. I hope for all concerned it gets resolved soon.

What a totally beautiful building. Those units are HUGE and will probably be split into 3 per floor.

ok, are you talking about the building on the southwest corner of northshore and sheridan? the ugly-ass building that's obviously exactly the same as like 10 others in the neighborhood? it's not all that attractive to me, though i suppose if they redo it on the outside like the building on the northwest corner of morse and greenview, it could be attractive, but i wouldn't call it beautiful. but i suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

This link will describe what they are going to be doing to the Building on the Corner of Sheridan and North Shore. Notice that the Flower Shop is now closed.

Maybe I'm thinking of the Columbia one whoops.

The defunct floral shop is on the corner of Albion and Sheridan. Guy deserved to go out of biz- I never saw so many wilting plants packed so close together, to invite fungal and viral plant diseases. He'd never put anything on sale to move it, not ever.

The Newcastle buildings are on the SW corner of Sheridan & North Shore. Those are the buildings that $2MM of OUR tax money, from the Loyola TIF, will be used to renovate. Think about that while you put off fixing your leaky roof or fuel-guzzling furnace for another year because you are being crushed by escalating local taxes.

The 4 + 1s at the corner of Sheridan & Columbia are not in play, or at least I have not heard that they are.

I live near the building on North Shore and Sheridan and I've been wondering what has been going on too... I moved in about a year ago and one of the first things I thought was my god that building is unattractive...and always surrounded by litter. I wait for the bus there every day and it seems to be fairly empty. I'll reread all the posts because you may have said what's going on with it..but when I looked at the one link (for Loyola station), it seemed to be talking about Albion being the border, not North Shore?

Laura- They are all on month to month leases I think, which means all that is required is 30 day notice.

Yeah Craig, go look at north shore and stay away from Morse, that would be nice!
