Police sketch of the pervert who attempted to kidnap a 9-year-old girl in West Rogers Park last Sunday.
Police issued a community alert Saturday after a 9-year-old girl reported a man grabbed her hand and tried to pull her toward a van in West Rogers Park last Sunday.
The attempted kidnapping happened about 1 p.m. December 2nd, in the 6200 block of North Sacramento Avenue as the girl was walking to a friend's house, police said. The man grabbed the girl's hand and was trying to pull her to his mini-van parked nearby when the quick-thinking girl told him someone was watching her. As he was distracted, she pulled free and ran to safety. The man fled in the van. (Chicago Tribune)
He is described as dark-skinned, 20 to 30 years old with short, straight black hair. He has dark brown eyes, a pointed nose and a mole on his right cheek. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds. The vehicle he was driving was described as a dark green mini-van with tinted windows, possibly a late model Toyota Sienna. Those with any information should call the Belmont Area Special Victims Unit at 312-744-8200. (Chicago Police sketch / December 8, 2007)

Is that Natas?
Very smart little girl, who apparently was schooled by a knowing parent or by information she learned in her classroom. She saved herself from would have been a tragic end.
This is the umpteenth incident I've heard or read about lately about attempted child snatchings. They seem to be happening a lot this holiday.
