* John vs. Jan - The Gloves Are Off

Because Schakowsky won't debate, John Nocita compares his values head-to-head with Jan Schakowsky in a new mailer. The message here is simple. Jan fights harder for other foreign countries values than she does for the values of the United States. With her track record, maybe Jan should be running for Congress in Pakistan instead?

Content Value: Although John comes out swinging in this mailer, he's not telling us anything new. I give it a 7.

He seems to be more conservative than I would imagine people from that district would like. Good luck to him anyway!

While what John Nocita states in his mailer may not be new to either you or me, it probably is new to all of those gullable lakefront voters who Schakowsky counts on to keep her sorry butt in Congress.

Jan voted to cut off funding for the war, against the fence - she should have paid for this mailer

There's no way John Nocita can beat Schakowsky. Even if he ran around Rogers Park picking up the parkway dog poop and removed the human poop on the steps to the Morse el platform, he still wouldn't get elected.

Well thats a sad commentary about the intelligence and priorities of the average RP voter then isn't it?

It has been somewhat heartening to see a few Ron Paul signs around RP. For all the so-called independence around this 'hood, I mostly see a lot of folks marching in lockstep with their party cohorts. Along comes a real independent who wants government out of other countries' business, out of our bedrooms, and out of our bank accounts, and where are the indepdent liberals in the 'hood? Marching in lockstep behind Aunt Jan and the rest of the machine. Those who once railed against "The Man" are now mini-me men. Why? Because they aren't independent at all. They are socialist, everyone's favorite collectivist flavor. Individual liberties and freedoms be damned: we will make you one of us.

The most interesting stat on election day will be how many in the 49th had the gumption to go to the polls and ask for the GOP ticket.

Well, maybe we don't like Ron Paul because he's a crazy racist.

Southevanstonian, although I do not agree with his choice, the fact is he didn't misspell anything. Given the fact that this is a political flier, he may be instituting the informal usage of the word in order to reach a broader audience and/or seem more approachable by the average citizen. Anyway, whatever his reason for using it, the fact is "thru" is considered the proper spelling of the short version of the word "through." My source is the American Heritage Dictionary.

Pamela,

At this point, it's pretty much a waste to vote in the Republican primary in Chicago.

The LOCAL candidates are basically chosen in the Democratic primary -- the November election is a formality for those offices (though obviously needed for things like president)

In the case of Rogers Park, there are REAL choices for 7th district State Senate & 1st Congressional District.

If you vote in the Republican primary, you're essentially taking away a vote that could defeat establishment candidates.

Even though November would theoretically be a second chance, it's very doubtful you'll get a better chance than now.

If Ron Paul is racist, so is Joe Moore. It's nice to read that the smear campaign has been successful and/or is continuing. Dems have done everything they can to besmirch the man's name because they FEAR him because he takes away votes from them. I do not agree with Mr. Paul on everything (such as his position on going back to the gold standard or illegal immigration) but find me the perfect politician and I'll bet $100 it comes only as a very cold corpse.

FargoWoman: the Oxford English Dictionary includes "thru" (although it looks like an addendum in the online version) with the explanation "now used informally as a reformed spelling and abbreviation (chiefly) in N. Amer."

I'm still not impressed, though.

What is so bad about protecting Christmas? Are you a communist?

BTW, I love his idea about tax credits for private schools. I teach poly sci at NEIU and always love a good education policy debate.
