* Dave Fagus Calls Amy Carlton a Liar

Someone's Not Telling the Truth

* The bizarre election-day breakdown that made Chicago a worldwide laughingstock started a little after 6 AM on February 5, when Angela Burkhardt went to her polling place in the 42nd precinct of the 49th Ward, a firehouse at 1723 W. Greenleaf. To her astonishment, she says, Fagus and one of his assistants confirmed the story. A man behind the front desk said, ‘Oh yeah, invisible ink. That’s what they’re using this year," says Carlton.

* And Fagus, who had come out of his office by now, said, 'Oh yes, they’re using invisible ink.’

* Fagus insists he never told Carlton anything about invisible ink when she came to his office—not that he wants to get into a squabble with her. “But I didn’t say anything like that."

I'd tend to believe Amy in this case__ Dave comes across as untrustworthy and defensive with his answers_

why'd ben j. let dave f. off the hook? he seems to make more fun of the situation than get to the bottom of the problem.

“I don’t know how they made that leap of logic,” says board of elections spokesman James Allen. “You can’t find the word invisible in our election judge handbook—maybe because it’s written in invisible ink.”

Fagus choses these judges, so he must give them this sense of power. Some judges have his cell phone on speed dial! It’s also been perfectly acceptable for his judges to harass people. His judges take cell phone photos while working (well Fagus took digital photos in a polling place too), lie about ‘phasing out provisional ballots’, hide the 100 foot marker cones, allow people to vote who live in vacant buildings, etc. I’ll be politically polite about certain judges who are challenged in reading and comprehension, but what are they doing in that role? How did they get in that ‘power’ role?

We should see different faces in some of these repeat offender strongholds

"Fagus says he didn’t appoint any of the judges in the 42nd precinct—he doesn’t even know their names. And Wilson said when he called Fagus about getting appointed as a judge, Fagus didn’t return his calls."

Fagus not returning calls. Now that's truth in reporting.

Fagus says he figures an ignorant election judge got carried away. “It’s a lot of power trip going on. It goes to their heads."

OK, if Fagus has nothing to do with 'placement' how and why do the same judges land in the same precincts over and over and over again? Especially the challenged ones?

Rotate.

From the "If you can't beat them - Join them!" department

On November 7, 2006 (Election Day), I was one of a team of people collecting signatures for Jim Ginderske, a candidate for 49th Ward Alderman. On that day, the Ginderske campaign had perhaps a score of volunteers working outside polling places throughout the 49th Ward. While engaged in this activity, I and several other Ginderske volunteers observed approximately two dozen people collecting signatures for Joe Moore, as well as passing out sample ballots for Moore's close political ally, 49th Ward Democratic Committeeman David Fagus.

Several elements of what we observed seemed out of place. First, among our volunteers are many long-time residents of Rogers Park, who are familiar with the relatively small number of people who regularly volunteer for political and social causes. We observed that two known individuals were supervising a large number of individuals not known to us. Specifically, we observed Michael Land, an employee of Ald. Moore's ward office, and Barbara Sepanik, Ald. Moore's girlfriend, ordering the other individuals to perform certain tasks, such as where to stand, how long to remain there, and making demands on the number of signatures to collect or number of sample ballots to pass out.

Secondly, the vast majority of people who are known to us to volunteer for social and political causes in the 49th Ward earn middle-class incomes. In contrast, all of the workers being supervised by Moore's associates were plainly without money. Although the weather was quite cold, one Moore worker was lightly dressed and visibly shivering in the cold. Upon inquiry, she stated that she did not own a coat. Other Moore workers were dressed in shabby and stained clothing, and showed other signs of poverty. Source.

If only running this story again would undo the bullshit you pulled against Amy.

Yeah, right, it's the blogs fault.

Ben does not help with the "retard" attribution. As far as I'm concerned, that constitutes an unwarranted pile-on.

Amy is Aok in my book. I'd bet cash and some body parts on her before Fagus & Co.

doubt that westgard story for one reason. dave fagus was not on the ballot last year, sample or otherwise.

funny how people insist on bashing fagus on this but IT WAS A REPUBLICAN JUDGE!!!

Mo, that was the Aldermanic race TW wrote about- not Fagus. But Fagus was oh-so-involved with that campaign was he not?
