* Fire in the 6000 Block of North Kenmore (Update)
Fire trucks are arriving. Crowd control has been called in. Police have been pulled from school dismissal detail. Traffic is a mess. More news to follow.
Update 4:30 PM: Sheridan Road is closed down. Warming buses were called. So was the Red Cross.
I'm looking at it out the window of Damen Hall. I saw it start about 10 minutes ago. People I work with thought it was a furnace. Right when Sacred Heart is getting out too!
P.S. Bragging rights, my son just got his ACT score. It's a 33!
no, no it's cool. i spoke to her, but she hasn't been home. someone told her about a fire on her block, so i was just trying to find out for her... there's nothing about it on the news :/
I love that area, and I've never seen signs of gang presence, nor felt any threat whatsoever walking the streets- and I'm often on Granville, Broadway, or Sheridan pretty late.
I had walked to Sheridan to catch the bus north when the fire trucks came and traffic was blocked, but couldn't see what building.
There are only one or two 4 + 1s in the 5800 -6300 blocks. It is mostly high-rise, plus a nursing home. A bus was brought to evacuate the residents from the smoke-filled building. I believe 6039 is a highrise, as there are no 4+1s at all on the east side of the street.

it was 6039, some of the apartments are fine.
thanks for all the reporting you do
Hope no one got hurt, but that block is also known as four plus one alley. Perhaps it was a civic improvement.
No shit. The area is gang infested too.

6000 block of Kenmore = four plus one alley. Why? I live there.
