Never underestimate the voters' tolerance for corruption.
Never underestimate the hunger for a hero.
Being the darling of liberals need not preclude enjoying the customary benefits of being a Chicago alderman: graft, corruption, patronage, pay-to-play subsidies for sale. You can do BOTH! In Chicago, the land of clout, a faux progressive is king. To show how smart they are, liberals have an deep-seated need to get out and shake signs and chant and rally, a need so obsessive, if they can't find anyone to rally around, they will invent someone, literally ANYONE who makes the right sounds.
It doesn't cost you anything to pander to Rogers Park's lefties. They don't ask for anything. They are just as happy with introducing an ordinance as passing it, they are just as happy with legislation that gets tabled or vetoed. The are just as happy with talk as results. All they really want is to hear the right noises.
Developers on the other had need their demo permits and zoning changes. So charge them. Your campaign coffers need not suffer.
So keep making the right noises, and keep reaping the traditional benefits. Keep repeating the progressive mantras over and over, and eventually they will believe it, and maybe you will, too. Eventually, with adequate training of your loyal followers, you can even hold a progressive rally, literally across the street from a luxury condo project for a developer pal, a pal who made massive payments to your re-election campaign, a pal you did a lucrative zoning change for, and the silly progressive types will smile and cheer you and applaud, and no one will ask any uncomfortable questions.
And they will keep voting for you. After all, where else they gonna go?

Joe Moore will tell anyone anything. He's good at his job.
You are just too uneducated to fathom the subtle nuances of his positions.
This "article" doesn't say anything of substance. What exactly are you trying to get across? Give us specific examples rather than generalized accusations, please.
You know, I consider myself progressive and I don't buy the alderman's shit - so this little rant is a more than a little little off the mark. Joe Moore is neither progressive nor liberal and I think anyone with honest politics can see that. Don't use him to bash liberal politics because he does not represent.
A one-party rule of the city and county guarantees no reforms and incessant taxation. The fact that taxpayers keep putting these people in office says something about the electorate itself: Chicago gets what it deserves. Always has, always will. Only the price will change. Upward.
