* Who is picking these (election) judges?

"It was ridiculous that the judges could think it was invisible ink. How could you mistake a stylus for a pen."

Chicago Election Board spokesman Jim Allen said he has since been fielding calls from national media, asking about the "invisible ink" pens in the 49th ward.

"It was the only precinct out of the 2,579 precincts in the city where we saw this come up," Allen said. "Who is picking these (election) judges?" Source.

judges pick themselves. they volunteer, they get a couple hours of training, and they face the voters. it is hard. it is long. it is a civic duty that few fulfill.

I served once and I'll never do it again. It certainly opened my eyes to the fact that whether your vote counts or not is - when all is said and done - at the mercy of the election judges. I tried bringing the irregularities to the attention of the Board of Elections but they didn't even send anyone out to investigate. I'll never do it again . . . oh, yeah, and I'll NEVER vote absentee.
