* Bong Shop Comes to the 'Hood'

Head Shop Makes Debut

A new 'Head Shop' opened up in the neighborhood. Windy City Glass, located at 6760 North Sheridan, is open to serve the serious smokers needs. From twisty glass bongs, to bongs that stand six feet tall - this Bong Store has it all.

Now, the question of the day. Bong Shops are businesses too. Where's Joe Moore and DevCorp North with their ribbon cutting ceremony? Or do they only do that for Parking Lots?

Bizarre Bazaar on Wells Street in Old Town was closed down by neighborhood pressure after being in business for years. The claim was they were selling drug paraphrenalia. It was mostly about appearances. Corner stores sell rolling papers for plain tobacco but they're in business.

But I digress, I've lived in more than one neighborhood in Chicago.

I sure hope they have protective bars for their display window.

I saw this place. It's cute. Great-looking glassware reminiscent of another, more innocent, era.

I just hope it doesn't get classified as a "head shop", which looks to be happening already.

I hope they stock some glassware for other uses, as well.

This could be the beginning of a great boutique shopping district at Sheridan & Pratt, given some intelligent redevelopment over the years.

I like to visualize it as it would look minus the four plus one that wrecks the lot line. Without that building, you would have a continuous deep setback, with a large plaza, from Columbia almost to Farwell. The Pratt Beach apt bldg, in which this little shop is located, is a beautiful building with lots of charm, and the Village Theatre building is potentially gorgeous.

All that needs to happen is to remove that 4 + 1, and there could be an unbroken lot line with a large plaza with lots of boutique retail, plus the stuff that's already there, lining it. Now that 1200 W Pratt is sort of fixed up, it would be great to see a properly set-back mixed use building with retail at grade level and apts or condos above, where sits the 4 +1.

But that can't happen for a few more years, which means there's time to plan it properly.

Be nice to be rid of the Kagan hole on Sheridan, too. It is turning into a dope shack and the source of local problems.

I live right next door to this place. I was shocked when I saw the storefront while waiting for the 147 last week. Where a guy asked me if I wanted to purchase some Hydroponic. This happened when I was walking up Pratt from the Clark Bus at 4am. There was no one outside the entire walk from Clark to Sheridan until I got to Sheridan to make the turn and go into my building.

In response to North Coast. I happen to live in that 4 plus one.
So do a lot of other people. Do you plan to help us all find affordable housing so you can have your Boutique shopping in Rogers Park?

So, are you saying people shouldn't smoke have bongs or that people shouldn't smoke weed? There isn't anything wrong with smoking weed, in my opinion.
Glass is cleaner than smoking paper, and a bong is generally smoked in the privacy of ones own home.
If people smoked pot instead of crack, snorting coke, or getting in their cars after 2 martini's we would all be a lot better off.

I Response to " I hard the r.p."

I am saying that drug-pot dealing out on the street is illegal.

So Craigie Poo Poo, seems you got a new place to buy your bongs and Meth Pipes.

I heard about windy city glass the new head shop by loyolla so i went to check it out(25 minutes traveling). i was very dissapointed when i got there. first of all the glass pipes and bongs are very low quality and very overpriced. EXTREMELLY LIGHT GLASS. would probally break with just the wrong touch. also lots of imperfections in the pieces. the owner is not really the kind of guy you would expect to own a head shop either. he seems to be all buisness and expects you to spend money if you step foot in the store just to look around. this head shop is a 2 on a scale of 1-10with 10 as the highest. this place really sucks, dont waste your time traveling there because you will be dissapointed. there are a lot of better head shops at clark and belmont, thats the place to get a sweet piece.
