An alderman turning down a big payoff?

If that's true, it could really hurt Council members' reputations

A prosecution witness at Tony Rezko's trial testified Monday that he was told a Chicago alderman was in line to split a six-figure finder's fee on a state pension fund investment without doing any work, but ended up turning down the money.

I hate to say it, but that line of testimony could really undercut the credibility of the prosecution's star witness ...

I mean, who is going to believe a story like that? An alderman turning down a big fat payoff?
