* Gang Fight @ Pratt and Clark

Today at 1:45 PM, a large gang fight allegedly took place between 20 people in the 1700 block of West Pratt. This was said to have happened in the alley behind McDonald's. When first responders arrived on scene - they called for a slow down.

Police were called to Sullivan High School to make a couple of arrests stemming from a unknown incident on Monday. For some reason a lot of parents were at the school. Possibly because it's report card day. Police were warned to make the arrests on the down-low as to not upset them.

Battery at Clark and Lunt. One taken into custody.

There is an apt building at 1735 W Pratt that is in horrible condition and has become the locus of many problems.

Friend of mine looking for a place to rent reported the place to me as being a total horror, and when we last drove past the place, there was a bullet hole in the front door glass.

I feel that many of the recent problems at Pratt&Clark can be traced back to tenants in this place.

all high schools were out today due to parent/teacher conferences...

Seems to me that the schools are closed way too often, leaving the kids with no supervision.

Since when are schools closed because of parent/teacher conferences? When I was a kid, these conferences took place in the evening, because it was understood that parents couldn't show during work hours.

Are parents expected to take off work and endanger their livelihoods for this, just because the teachers get a paid day off for it?

This stuff leaves parents in the lurch as far as supervising their kids, especially parents with small kids who totally can't be left alone. Try setting up day care on demand for the occasional day.
