One person is in critical condition after being shot 4 times at the Citgo Gas Station located at Sheridan and Touhy Avenue in beautiful Rogers Park this evening. The shooting occurred near the lake front in broad daylight around 6:30 PM, tonight. At least one of the bullets managed it's way in to the offenders neck. Other body parts were hit as well.
Allegedly the police are looking for a red Dodge mini-van with Wisconsin plates after reviewing the video monitors at the gas station. A silver van on the scene is part of the crime and is being investigated by CSI at this time. The victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
With over a dozen squads on scene - dispatch listed this as a "Plan 2." Nothing further.
Update 9:00 PM: Looks like this is now a murder at the gas pump. The victim was taken in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. His identity was not being released Monday pending notification of family members, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. Source.

Joe is going to act like "This wasn't my fault" but it is, it is. Because if this is a gang fight for territory then Joe's refusal to crack down on gangs and criminal activity in Rogers Park is as much a part of the killing as was the vehicle that the murderer drove to get away.
The way for Joe to wash this blood off of his hands is to let the Chicago police do what they do best: crack down on crime. Let them make life miserable for the criminal elements and this will go away. Quit tying the hands of the police, Joe, and maybe things will get better.
I'm sure that the people of Rogers Park can soon expect a press conference from their esteemed alderman at that corner. And he will wring his hands and say what a shame this is and see all that I've done.

Brandon Arnold, 26, of the 4600 block of North Kenmore Avenue, was filling his vehicle with gas around 6:30 p.m. at a Citgo station at Sheridan Road and Touhy Avenue when an unidentified gunman opened fire and fled.
Police said the assailant was perhaps in a maroon or red van.
Pumping gas in Rogers Park poses a serious danger.
If Joe shops at the Citgo it must be safe.

Gasoline doesn't explode when a bullet punctures a tank it's stored in.
It would require a spark or flame to cause it to catch fire, but it's the fumes that explode.
An empty tank is more likely to explode than a full one.

My late younger sister worked not too far away from where that Citgo is located. She told me during warm weather, there was always drug and/or gang activity going on in the park across the way. She witnessed a drive-by once that scattered a group of guys who were playing basketball nearby.
This shooting might have been drug or gang related, but then, it might have been a case of mistaken identity, too, which is just as bad. Welcome to summer in the city, folks. No neighborhood is immune from this.
We may not be immune to crime, but that doesn't mean we have to roll over like doormats.
