* CTA Workers Spend Weekend "Doing Nothing"

Zero Accountability at the CTA

What we have here is a plumbing project at the CTA Red Line, Morse Avenue Stop, Lunt Entrance. When I left for Las Vegas over 10 days ago - this project was just beginning.

I remember because I took a photo of a worker sleeping on the job. Yes, eyes closed - sleeping.

When I got back last week, workers continued to come to the job site and stand around doing nothing all day.

Then, this weekend, at least 5 workers (5 CTA work trucks too) showed up to do nothing. Both Saturday and Sunday. All day they either sat around, stood around, walked around, but rarely, if ever, actually worked around the hole on the Lunt Avenue side of the CTA Red-line.

I'm just wondering. Do these do nothing workers get paid "double time" on the weekends? The only way to find that out is to check the timecards. Heck, the only way to find out why they dug the hole in the first place is to file a FOIA. There should be no reason this project should take as long to fix - as it took workers to build the Hoover Dam.

And, when are these do-nothing workers actually going to fix what's broken in the hole? Maybe NEXT WEEKEND? As of today, the hole still looks exactly like the hole they dug 10 days ago.

Lunt appears to be going downhill. Since the water main break a few weeks ago no one has come to patch the giant hole left in the road. That is going to be really nasty if not dealt with by the first freeze/thaw.

I walked by there with the dogs yesterday. There were several people just standing and sitting around. What a "job" they have!

hey Craig! Thanks for all you do! I myself was wondering what the heck they were doing all weekend, until I noticed today as I walked up the Lunt stairs, that the second half of the stairs had been re-done with new cement and tile. Nice to know they did SOMETHING (although seemed like they could work on the hole while it was drying, but I digress)
