7 arrested in drug sting along Evanston-Chicago border
Suspects sold on Howard Street, Evanston police say By Brian Cox | Special to the Tribune 4:14 PM CDT, July 16, 2008 Seven people near Howard Street were arrested Tuesday and charged as part of a drug sting by Evanston and Chicago police, authorities said.
Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said the sting, called Operation Great Falls, began in May and involved undercover officers from each department buying illegal drugs from dealers on both sides of Howard Street, the border between the two cities.
Five people from Evanston and two from Chicago were arrested, and all have been charged with drug offenses, Guenther said.
He said the investigation is ongoing, and investigators declined to give details about the arrests
"It resulted in taking some drug dealers off the street, which makes both communities safer," Guenther said. "Drugs and the proceeds from drugs tend to finance other criminal activity, and resulting turf wars make both our communities less safe."
This is an excellent example of cooperation between the Chicago and Evanston police departments. Thanks Rich Eddington
