* Shots Fired @ Gateway Mall (Update)

All hells breaking loose around Bally's, the CAPS office that rarely open, and Dominick's at Howard and Clark right now. Better known as Gateway Mall.

2 shots fired at 8:21 PM. Police are chasing offenders and looks like they lost one by the Metra train tracks at 8:25 PM.

Update: They've got a good description of the person who's got the gun. It's a teenager. They say he's got a tattoo of an Angel with a gun on his arm. The police know him. Last known addresses are 7000 block of North Sheridan or the 1700 block of West Pratt. They may have caught him at Clark and Pratt.

This is exactly why I shop at the Dominick's on Broadway! It's bad news over there.

3 shootings in less than a week and not one word from the alderman. Too bad they aren't shooting at geese.

Shooting in Uptown. The neighbors go nuts.

Shootings in Rogers Park. Ho-hum, no big deal.

I live in the Estes and Ridge area and as I was sitting at my window yesterday evening enjoying the evening breeze when I heard several gun shots off in the distance to the east toward the Gateway Center. I immediately turned on my Police Scanner to see what was happening. Ten minutes later, the Police Dispatcher came on the air and dispatch the call to one of our officers in blue. The officer quickly responded that he was in the area of the Gateway Center and that he didn't hear anything. The dispatcher then ask if she should "DISREGUARD" the call, since "HE" didn't hear anything? After several minutes had passed, which could of meant life or death to some poor victum, the officer finally stated that since he was in the area already, he would drive by and check it out even though "HE" didn't hear anything. I guess a 911 "Shots Fired" call only counts if the officer that is dispatched hears the shots. Million dollar Blue Lights that can't see and Police Officers that can't hear.

Sandy, I heard that too. Bothered me quite a bit to hear officers dispute multiple 911 calls for 'shots fired' and shake it off as it didn't happen.

For the official 911 dispatch record. At 8:17 PM officer #2405 thought it was fire-works. She was inside the field house at Pottawatomie Park.

That was the first batch of calls for shots fired at 7318 North Wolcott.

Maybe this other blog will shed some light on the actions of the police.

Sandy- Who called the police? Did he/she leave their name? If the Officer arrives on the scene, see's or hear's nothing to indicate that there is anything wrong, talks to citizens who tell him they didn't hear or see anything, has no complainant to speak to, what would you have this Officer do?

BTW, the dispatchers are not the Police. They are civilians. Some do an ok job, some do not, just like everything else in life. Me, I thought it was better when we had old time coppers or officers on light duty as dispatchers.
