Warning! Sidewalk Bicyclists On Morse Avenue - Part 1

First in a long series dedicated to Sergeant Baranowski. The bicycle chasing police Sergeant.

I'd like to know why this guy gets to ride his bicycle on Morse Avenue? Location: 1300 block of West Morse Avenue. Time 3:30 PM. This violator is putting the folks who walk Morse Avenue in "grave danger."

Hey, Sergeant Baranowski. We have a Administrative Notice of Ordinance Violation ticket for you write out.

We all need to start snapping these pictures.

Why are rent-a-cops called "private dicks?" Because they aren't public dicks.

Yes, to more pictures. Try to get a landmark or street sign in the pictures if possible to establish place.

It's foolish to ride a bike on the sidewalk in any area that is a business district, like that section of Morse. People are just asking for a collision with a pedestrian.

But then, I see folks regularly speeding down the sidewalks on Sheridan Road, despite all the signs that clearly say "no bikes on the sidewalks". The space for bikes and pedestrians to exist is even narrower there. I'll give a pass to kids under twelve years of age. According to Illinois bike law, they can ride on the sidewalks. But everyone else needs to get in the street, or on the bike trails.

I see people riding there bikes on the sidewalk on Sheridan road all the time and in some cases going so fast they knock over people walking or they drive on the grass instead. Hell the cops bike on the sidewalks all the time. They come in threes. There have been times when I'm walking on the sidewalk on Sheridan that I will not move out of the way of someone biking on the sidewalk. There are even signs telling people to WALK there bike NOT ride on the sidewalk, violators will be fined.

Well, the cops were way out of line on this one. Glad they are solving the crimes in the area. When I call to tell them of a drug deal going down. They don't show, ore they are so damn slow to respond that the people leave. Bike got stolen, called them, they showed two hours later. And I got my bike back, told them where the thiefs were walking EXACTLY. TWO HOURS. Guess they were buys shooting radar on the sidewalks.

As far as bike riding on Sheridan, the cops made a few busts when the signs first went up a few years ago. I personally witnessed them stopping cyclists and even putting those little plastic ties on their tires to prevent them from riding on the sidewalk any further. Now? It's like they said, who gives a f*ck. And the part that galls me is that there is a bike path on the street ONE BLOCK OVER! USE IT!

Well here's an interesting sidebar.
it seems that out in West Hollywood, Cal, the city wants bike riders to use the sidewalks. Current LA County law bans that, but even the LA County Sheriff's bike cops are scared of riding on the street in West Hollywood.
