Joe Moore is many things to many people. To those in the bed bug industry, Moore's word is god.
As Alderman Joe Moore told Fox, the law in Chicago says the landlord has to get rid of pests in the building. Bed bugs take a lot of work and a lot of knowledge. However, the bed bug blame game, and air freshener, do nothing to help get rid of bed bugs. Source.

Here's an entirely different local government services item. Our 49th Ward's Streets and Sanitation Department Superintendent Mike Erickson is now retired, and served his last day today.
Erickson was wonderfully responsive to residents and did a great job. Like his renowned predecessor, the late Bill Norkett, Erickson could always be spotted regularly patrolling our ward for problems and jumping out of his city SUV to shovel up trash from our streets and gutters. Best wishes to him!
Greg Wagner is now in place as our new superintendent and I hope he will carry on the tradition of service.

This quote kind of misrepresents what I was saying on Bedbugger.com.
I did say,

However, everything else in the quote you used is my own words, my own thoughts, not part of some statement by Moore.
FWIW, I am not a part of the "bed bug industry" but a concerned citizen, like you.
I would seriously doubt that anyone in the "bed bug industry" knows who Joe Moore is.
As a New Yorker,I didn't, until I saw him in a Fox segment on a Chicago building with bed bugs.
I was simply citing the Alderman's factual statement about the law regarding landlords and pests in Chicago, because it was in the news segment I had linked to.
I'm impressed by your blog and the Rogers Park blogging community (from what I can see, quite an active one). I once knew the neighborhood quite well.
But I have zero position on any of the current Chicago politicians.
You're right, nobody knows this Joe Moore guy in the bug business. As for as Chicago telling the landlord that the landlord is liable for mitigation of bed bugs...they're full of Oscar Meyer (B O L O G N A) That's what they are saying, but all it's going to take is for someone to forego the expense of paying an attorney to challenge the city. Cincinnati has poked the landlords in their city right in the mouth. Since 73% of the population lives below the poverty level, and therefore cannot afford to pay for treatment, the City decided to pass an ordinace classifying bed bugs as vermon...NOT!! Vermon = rats, mice, roaches...critters that can cause health issues with humans. Everywhere you read the "experts" clearly state that bed bugs DO NOT pose health risks. Congratulations, Cincinnati...you harbor those who are delinguent in being morally responsible and self-sufficient, and place the burden on those who strive to attain a level of success. As the local Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati stated, they are waiting for a landlord to tell a resident that the resident has to dispose of personal items, because they (Legal Aid) wants to sue the landlord for discrimination and conversion!! Congrats, again. That attitude will certainly make Cincinnati a "most favorable" city to reside in and do business in. The next poke in the nose will be when Cincinnati classifies crabs as vermon, and tells landlords that the landlord is responsible for treating the crabs. What a dispicable environment to have to tolerate. Good luck to the folks in Cincinnati that have to relinquish their rights to the bizzare left.
