Moore's Motivations: Who's at War With Whom?

" ... as Chicago Reader reporter Ben Joravsky noted in his article, "Endless War," most of the opposition to the Boys and Girls Club appeared to be politically motivated."

-Joe Moore, via e-mail 8/5/08
Whoa! First of all, there WAS NO "opposition to the Boys and Girls Club." Secondly, Moore's OPPOSITION was politically motivated??? What article did Moore read?

Mr. Radio: Interviews with Ben Joravsky: The Rest of the Story

The Chicago Reader’s Ben Joravsky eyes the motives of the schemers in a pointed polemic of park privatization. ... why the Park District would violate its vendor policy; and how to have healthy debate in your ward. Listen.

Excerpt:
Mr. Radio: "...what are the motivations of the people involved ... the alderman?"

Joravsky: "This is my opinion ... and I'm basing on what Joe Moore told me. ... I think Joe Moore's motivation - his SPOKEN motivation is to have the best of all possible facilities in his community. I think that he also had the motivation - whether he admits it or not, and he WON'T admit it - is he wanted to annoy and aggrevate his opposition."
Ward Well-Served by Healthy Debate

Joravsky goes on:
"In the last aldermanic election, it came down to a relative handful of votes. So the ward is pretty much split. I would argue that the residents are well-served by this division. I ENVY the 49th ward. I wish other wards had similar divisions. ... There's healthy debate. There's a check and a balance. The alderman doesn't just have unchecked power, and in too many wards the aldermen DO have unchecked power. So I would say the 49th ward is served well by this, even if it frustrates Joe Moore."

Moore's spin/dishonesty about 'opposition' to the Boys & Girls Club is with out any basis in fact. I know of NO ONE who was/is against having a B&G Club in our community. What 'we' do and did oppose was the 'behind closed doors' attempt to turn over a public Community Center to a private organization and pay 'them' to operate their membership organization with tax funds, to the tune of $100,000. We welcome the B&G Club to our neighborhood and continue to urge them to base the Club in the Gale School Annex, which has been 'offered' as an available site by the school Principle. Any divisiveness and politicalization of this issue has been instigated by Mr. Moore.

What a treat. Got a chance to meet up with Joe Moore and his two man goon squad yesterday:

Speaking of frustration, you should've seen Joe get frustrated and not answer any of my questions last night. What a putz.

Oh, you should've seen the poop scoop/city sticker scofflaw/storefront lawyer hack get frustrated too. He totally lost his composure in public. What a loser.

While rambling about everything but the subject at hand, our local political underground operative blogger for Joe Moore loses his cool at the Howard TIF handout meeting. Begins to use foul language.

Walking in late as usual, Joe Moore held up the working class crowd waiting to find out why the CTA needed another 4.7 million dollars for a CTA el stop Joe Moore bragged about being completed.

Moore even when as far as to have a 'Grand Opening' Ribbon cutting on June 14, 2008, promoting the event twice in email blasts. (6/6/2008 and 6/13/08)

For the record: A sad statement in the representation of the community when this few people have a say in how $4.7 million dollars is handed out. Measly crowd.

Only 30 residents attended this Howard TIF handout meeting last night.

Or better put - A dog and pony show.

Another battle brewing......

Doesn't want TIF money spent on Howard CTA Station

I am opposed to use of TIF funds for the CTA Howard El Station Redevelopment as outlined below.

The CTA Howard El Station is a major transfer point for rail service to Evanston and Skokie to the north. It is a major transfer point for north suburban PACE buses. The station is past-due for modernization by about 30 years. The CTA is well aware of the Chicago climate and has had access to excellent engineering and design consultants. They should have planned better. Likewise, the viaducts and overpasses have suffered from decades of neglect. The engineers should have been more aggressive in their estimates of needed repairs.

I believe that more appropriate sources of funding for these improvements would be the City of Chicago's General Budget, the Cook County budget, and the State of Illinois budget for public transit. If Federal funds would be available, that would be nice too.

TIF funds come from our local Chicago businesses on Howard Street - not from our neighbors in Evanston who will also benefit from the CTA Howard Station and not from our neighbors in Skokie. The north suburban commuters who pass through the Howard CTA station are not likely to be spending their money in our business district. Surely some of their tax dollars should go to the CTA to fund these improvements in the infrastructure. Probably all of the commuters using the Howard CTA station are Cook County residents. Go ask Todd Stroger for money.
Using Howard/Paulina TIF dollars for this purpose puts an unfair burden on our local community while the benefits from improving the Howard CTA station are shared by a much wider group of tax payers.

In case you missed this week's Reader, there is an article about a downstate lawyer who, on appeal, successfully sued the city of Bensenville and the developer for the TIF they created to build a Wal-Mart (a company that DESPERATELY needs financial aid to continue growth). This opens the door for any resident in the community (read city of Chicago) to sue Hizz Honor to block the development of more TIFs. I'm sure there are conditions where a TIF is a good thing, but I'm guessing Loyola would have had the money and desire to build even without the TIF they got.
Anyone for a lawsuit?

NO money to be spent at Howard EL
HAs NE1 taken a ride or two at Jarvis lately.
Shame on you Alderman Moore for not taking care of this mess!

91,
a makeover of the jarvis station is planned by the cta as soon as howard station is done. not a replacement station, but repairs and refurbishing.

at any rate, the alderman does not have any authority over the cta. he can get his calls returned, his voice is always heard, but in the end, the cta board really does not give a shit what joe moore wants. which is as it should be. the cta serves the whole city. no one alderman SHOULD be able to tell them what to do.

I was told a while back by the alderman's office that the Morse stop had already been renovated!! What? That place seems frightening and gross to me - what exactly was fixed?

at least we are all in agreement with the CTA...we don't give a shit what Joe Moore wants either.

Razldazlrr,
Stop your complaining!!! The 'Renovation at Morse' is really the $100 spent on the lovely new stairway tiles up the Lunt-side entrance. Real special...
