Related: Gun Battle in Uptown Ends in Murder. In Rogers Park we've had 3 murders this year. Outside of myself, these unsolved murders have gotten little or no attention at all. In fact, Joe Moore has virtually swept them under the rug while running around the country carrying Barack Obama's jock-strap. All the while, the neighbors in Rogers Park cower in fear, calling 911 anonymously from their locked apartments and condos. Most are getting afraid to walk around after dark in fear of getting gooned, mugged, knifed or shot.
By contrast, in Uptown when someone gets shot, the community goes up-in-arms! They raised bloody hell on the blogs and in public with marches on Helen Shillers office. The Uptown community was so outraged, earlier this summer the Uptown community held a 'Town Hall' forum. The event was hosted by Heather Steans and Greg Harris because Helen Shiller hasn't done anything to address the crime issue in her ward either. Her tactic, much like Joe Moore, is to blame the critics instead of addressing the issue. Nearly 500 residents showed up to voice their concerns.
Yet the shots keep coming and blood keeps flowing on the sidewalks of the north side. Top-notch beat reporter, Lorraine Swanson, has filed this report.
Chicago Police detectives have no arrests nor motive in the Friday afternoon shootings in Uptown that left one teen dead and another critically injured, but Saturday morning the Cook County medical examiner's office was able to identify the teen who died.Image by Pond Up 2 U.
The man is Timothy Pittman, 19. No address was officially given for Pittman, but several Uptown residents who gathered near the scene of the shooting Friday said that both teens lived in a public housing building on the 900 block of West Lakeside Place.
The two teens were walking along the 4800 block of N. Sheridan Road on Friday afternoon when, according to police, a man approached them and opened fire. The first 911 call about the incident was made at 3:22 p.m. Friday. Chicago News Star.

do you honestly want joe in control of the police in the ward? do you want ed burke, bernie stone, eddie vrdolyak in charge of law enforcement in their wards?
Mo said...> "do you honestly want joe in control of the police in the ward?"
Good point.
Sorry to twang on Uptown, but this will make the 10th shooting down there this summer. The residents there may be "up in arms", but they don't seem to be able to accomplish anything thereby. That is one very dirty, seedy, scary neighborhood down there.
Every time I feel bad for
Rogers Park, I consider Uptown, which has more seedy SRO boarding houses and CHA projects stuffed with ex-cons, gang trash, and dirty whores than almost any other ward.
But I feel VERY bad for Rogers Park when I consider that AlderBeast Helen Schiller is best buds with our AlderCretin Joe Moore. Both areas are disproportionately burdened with social services catering to the most problem-prone elements in the population.
These two troubled north side wards badly need the kind of political leadership Mary Ann Smith has supplied in Edgewater, which has the second lowest crime rates in the city, even though it's demographic profile is very similar to RP and Uptown.
Unfortunately, as long as we have Moore running things, we will more and more come to resemble Uptown.
JOke NO Morre has ghetto-ized the 49th ward with his affordable housing crap.
It is sad that realtors outside of Rogers Park refer to the neighborhood as "Ghetto Park".
I would like to thank David Orr and JoKe NOmorre for the downturn of the neighborhood
My GOD people. Chill. Just duck and cover. The gun toting nut-grabbers are very poor shots. You have nothing to fear but.... well, the yuppies.
Craig,
I just got back from a road trip to see my new in-laws and fixed up their house a little, and what do i find? Some little neighborhood butt head has stolen my new grill from my gangway. Fence locked two other grills in the yard, and poof, no moore grill. But he crime is down. I'm putting my kids to the test with their neighborhood friends to see what they can find out, but i will be filing a police report by tomorrow (work first, presonal time later)
We have to keep this rumbling going until the next election. We just can't continue to have the Section 8 housing and gang trash in our neighborhoods!! I am so tired of seeing the creeps walking down Morse on a daily basis. I am also fed up with Moore's "affordable housing" junk - it ruins the neighborhood!! We can have a wonderful place to live if we can get all the "junk and trash" out of it!
What's your problem with anonymous 911 callers? What's your point? I was one of the callers that night. I reported anonymously, and I will stay anonymous as long as people like you are listening in and trying to make my identity their business for who knows what purpose. If I give my name how do I know you won't post it here, and how do I know who'll see it then? What if you decide at some point that I've "crossed" you so it's okay to post my info, maybe track me with a video cam, show people where I live, etc? Damn right I'm anonymous: people like you make it necessary.

As a Police Officer living in Rogers Park, I can tell you first hand that purchasing a home in Rogers Park is the biggest regret I have today. I preferred to purchase property near O'Hare, but the wife wanted to be closer to her mother's residence. Believe me, I constantly remind my wife of this dreadful mistake. Rogers Park is an extremely horrible and crime-ridden neighborhood, even West Ridge. If you literally go a few blocks east of Western, you're in trouble. Yes, as Police Officers we see the worst of the city, but Rogers Park takes the cake. Unfortunately, amidst this horrible economy, we're stuck for a few more years. I will be moving as soon as financially possible. Just be careful people - Rogers Park is infested with the lowest scum of the earth. It will never, ever get better, while other neighborhoods within the 19th and 20th Districts, for example, are flourishing.
