* Speculation Reaches High Gear. "Gentrification" Set Fire

Gang Scrawling Inside The Morse Theatre
"You want war," the graffiti says, written in pencil. "[Come] get uz."

If you're in Joe Moore's camp, there's lots of speculating going on regarding yesterdays fire. Why it was started? Who started it? Those types of speculators. Joe Moore's overzealous, underground political operatives, who's main goal is to slander people who don't agree with Mr. Alderpants policies, got it wrong.

Again.

These slime balls try to place blame on a number of people, even out-right lying. Just like their almighty political leader.

My story was straight up. Here's what the Tribune printed.
Chicago police say a fire early Sunday that damaged a theater undergoing a $6 million transformation into a jazz club in Rogers Park was set deliberately. Source.
I reported it was Arson. Mannis reported it was Arson. The Chicago Tribune reported it was Arson. Yet, Joe Moore and his gang of political operatives still speculates.
The investigator would not speculate on the motive. But Rene Camargo, director of DevCorp North, a community and economic development group that has been working to improve the area for the past four years, suggested it was someone opposed to change and improvement in the community.

The graffiti suggests the fire was started in the theater because it represents the gentrification of the neighborhood, he said.

"I don't see any other reason," Camargo said. "I see the graffiti there and it's telling me that they don't want to see a theater and a restaurant there."
Source.
Small in actual size, yet, Rene is one of the neighborhoods biggest tax payer funded douchebags. He claims the fire was set for gentrification reasons.

If that was the case, why hasn't this anti-gentrification gang torched the expensive condos being built at the old home of the Top Hat? If any project on Morse Avenue reflects our neighbors gentrification, this development would be the crown jewel.

Rene is nothing more than a government funded, street tax collecting, mob boss - paid out of a 1/4 million dollars a year slush fund of sorts from Special Service Area Street tax #24. He'll say anything to divert the attention away from his poor performance. Rene is running his mouth in the absence of facts. Like others on the Joe Moore misinformation highway, Rene needs to keep his big trap shut.

Gentrification didn't set this fire. Gangbangers that roam Morse Avenue at 3 AM in the morning set the fire.

The last time René recommended a forum for Morse Avenue, it cost the tax payers $25,000

*Gangbangers [that don't like gentrification because it signals the end of the decades-long Rogers Park crack party that's been going on for decades now] that roam Morse Avenue at 3 AM in the morning set the fire.

And where is the Alderninny's response to all this?! Not a word yet. Nice.

Rene Camargo's definition of Gentrification:

"PEOPLE OF ALL RACES WORKING TOGETHER TO BETTER THEIR COMMUNITY"

Well, these creeps and gangbangers seem to be the ones that Joe Moore and his followers love to have in the neighborhoods. Why they don't want all of this scum out of the neighborhoods is beyond me! His office continues to spout the wonders of low income housing what wonderful miracles it brings - is this one of them?

Oh my god. I've always figured that wetgard character was just an angry little guy, but I cannot begin to believe that he is actually happy this arson occurred! He's reveling in it! That's the most hateful thing I've ever heard of!

That guy has never done a single positive thing for rogers park, and now he's actually happy about a tragic event that happens to someone who has made a huge commitment to Morse Avenue!

Those Morse Theater guys have committed more money to their project than that wetgard guy will earn in a lifetime. They've worked harder on this project than that idiot has ever worked. And he's actually happy to see them suffer!

I simply cannot comprehend something like that! He's every bit as bad as the nasty little punks who set that fire!

As far as I'm concerned, that whack job has shown his true colors. He doesn't care one bit about the community. He's just angry that his life is a failure.

Unbelievable!

And when the morse theater does open -- and we all hope it is soon -- I hope they have the good sense to suggest wetgard spend his time elsewhere!

I read that guy's postings today. If I were the police, I would be taking a long look at him.

He's admitted that he hates the owner and seems just a little too happy about the arson.

There is definitely something wrong with that guy.

BTW, that graffiti doesn't say "Fuck Da Police", it says "Fuck The Polic 3". Who are the Polic 3? Any relation to the Chicago 7? The Gang of Four? At any rate, it's good to see these guys aren't against the police!

Your Chicago Friend - where do we find his posts to read?

I have a feeling that they got this from NWA's song (from the late 80's early 90s) "Fuck the Police.

Add a "o" between the "r and s" in Morsehellhole. You'll find Joe Moore's personal mouthpiece there.

Google is sending people my way in droves today. I'm #1 on google search when entering "Morse Theatre Arson."

I worked in Rogers Park in 1992 through 1998 North of Howard. Things are exactly the same. Nothing has changed. All of the people living there create the mess that exists today.
Lets build a field house and activity center so the lowlifes can destroy it, what a joke. Funny how things work, shut down the section 8 housing and raise the rent the scum will leave on their own.

I was very sorry for Andy and I hope this doesn't set the project back for too long. I hope the cops catch the perps, although I am not sanguine about the likelihood of that.

uhhh nightwatchman?

going to spend millions of dollars on something and then not properly secure it or even have a good security system or barbed wire or something?

this was idiotic that it was not properly secured.

There was a security guard at the site, but he was in the trailor rather than in the building- a mistake.

There should be a couple of guards on the site after the workers go home for the day.

I also wondered why the building wasn't more secured. It seems like the guard might have been more use in the actual building than (probably) napping in the trailer. They need BIG dogs!

It is being said that only the theater was torched, not the restaurant. Is that the case and if so why was that?

Perhaps this wasn't as simple as gangs with a grudge.

Maybe this was a message from the syndicate that runs Chicago entertainment.

Maybe one of the principals in the venture angered someone in a real serious way.

I say real serious because arson is not a petty crime. It is ranked right up there with murder.

When Starbucks came to RP some years ago it suffered 2 or 3 attacks from bricks being thrown through its' windows. A pain in the ass to be sure but certainly not at the level of arson. That was the response to gentrification in RP.

Additionally, I don't recall any gang involvement attributed to those acts of vandalism.

So, whatever goes on here, there seems to be more to this than some gangbangers who want to send the message 'fuck da police'.

That tagging seemed completely cliched almost like a scene was set to make it look like cop hating gangbangers with a vendetta against The Morse Theater let their rage loose on Sunday morning.

Anyway...I'm just wondering what the real story is.

More investigation please.

In response to Sandy re: Rene Camargo's definition of gentrification.

Having lived in RP since 1975 I think that I can speak with a bit of authority about this beautiful neighborhood.

Perhaps this definition of the gentrification process is more accurate:

"UPPER CLASS DEVELOPERS, MOSTLY WHITE WITH A SMATTERING OF SAVVY BLACKS, HISPANICS AND ASIANS, WORKING TOGETHER TO RID THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THAT THEY JUST SNAPPED UP FOR A SONG, OF ITS FORMER RESIDENTS, INCLUDING MANY SMALL BUSINESSES.

THIS IS DONE SO THAT PROPERTY VALUE APPRECIATION CAN PROCEED UNIMPEDED, ALLOWING THE GENTRIFIERS TO 'CLEAN UP' ON THEIR INVESTMENTS AFTER THEY 'CLEAN UP' THE NEIGHBORHOOD"

The motive for the vast majority of gentrification participants, whether mega developers or individual condo owners is property value appreciation...which is NOT the same thing as community.

Arson at The Morse Theatre
Submitted by Administrator on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 18:11.
Fire broke out at 3:40 Sunday morning at the Morse Theatre. None of the damage was caused by our general contractor or the construction process. Likewise, none of the damage was associated with electrical or equipment failure. As confirmed by the police bomb and arson unit, the building fell victim to arson. Vandals forced entry through a temporary door and ignited an accelerant at two points in the performance space, causing exrtensive smoke and soot damage. Luckily, the fire was quickly contained and the restaurant area was not damaged in any way. Our guard walks the site every half hour, and it is clear that the arsonist(s) watched his movements and struck in between his walks.

We are greatful for the support we have received from the neighborhood and appreciate very much the kind words that have been published by members of the local press. Rogers Park is a wonderful community, and we look forward to opening the venue in the near future despite this small setback.

I heard the restaurant suffered the most damage which was almost done and set to open first while other areas were still being constructed. I hope it doesn't set things back too long.
