Bullets Fly in Rogers Park

Last night gunfire erupted in the 7500 block of North Ridge. Six to eight shots were heard echoing throughout the neighborhood. Bullets were flying everywhere. Including through the front window of a house in the 7500 block of North Bell. A witness said two people were shooting at each other as they were running down the alley. One fled north on Ridge and was apprehended just over the border in Evanston after a short foot chase.

Police stalked out St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for the other possible victim/shooter. The crime scene is extensive. The cause of the shoot-out is currently unknown.

There was intense police traffic in the vicinity of Ashland north of Touhy to Greenleaf then points west from when I was walking home around 9ish to after 11. When I expressed concern after seeing multiple police cruisers with flashing lights and no sirens, paddy wagon, police SUV, multiple runs of fire trucks, and even tac unit guys parked outside our home, my partner said that the police were on top of the situation. Maybe. It seemed that they weren't finding whatever they were looking for. Including the groups of teens I saw violating curfew.

Who wants to bet that when queried about the activity at next CAPS meetings that the detectives tell us that nothing is going on. Nothing at all.

The day we see shootings in the 1400 block of West Fargo, is the day the Alderman will get involved.

Was the shot through the window intentional or random? Oh, what am I thinking, of course it's random. Those idiots can shoot straight.
But If it's random, the potentional for an innocent person sitting in their home and getting killed is too scary for the alderman or police to ignore. ... Isn't it?

The day we see shootings in the 1400 block of West Fargo, is the day the Alderman will get involved.

Can that be arranged? Just kidding.. sort of.

I live Clark/Farwell...all last night my husband and I were hearing sirens. Was this related to this incident or was there something else going on in our area?

As a resident, I am very concerned about this violence. What can we do? I want to stay in Rogers Park. There is so much potential. I love the diversity. I can not have my 3 year old exposed to this.

THIS WAS A RETALIATION FROM GANG BANGERS.. THERES A MURAL ON BIRCHWOOD AND THERE WAS A LOT OF GANG BANGERS ON THAT MURAL YESTERDAY AND WITHING A FEW HOURS THE SHOOTING HAPPENS ON THE ALLEY ON RIDGE. THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN STAY PROTECTIVE IS BY CALLING THE POLICE FOR ANY PERSON THAT JUST STANDING ON THE CORNER. THE TOWNHOMES ON RIDGE THEY NEED TO PUT UP GATES THERES A LOT OF GETAWAYS IN THE TOWNHOMES THAT GANG BANGERS CAN RUN WHENEVER THE POLICE COME AROUND. LOOKS LIKE THE GANG BANGERS ARE TRYING TO FIGHT FOR THE RIGHTS OF RIDGE AND HOWARD BUT THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN UNDER MY WATCH. PATTY DEPENDING WHERE U STAY AT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE GANG ACTIVITY . IF YOU STAY IN A GANG INFESTED AREA I RECOMMEND YOU THAT U CARRY PEPPER SPRAY AND IF YOU CAN A SWISS KNIFE WITH YOU. JUST DONT LET THE GANG BANGERS FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE STREETS BECAUSE ONCE THEY DO ITS HARD TO GET RID OF THEM...CONDO OWNERS TOWNHOME OWNERS ETC NEED TO GET TOGETHER AND FIGHT THIS SINCE THE POLICE DONT BE DOING MUCH

Please just call the police when you see gang loitering, suspicious people/vehicles. Dont worry about racial profiling worry about keeping the neighborhoods safe. Gangbangers come to your neighborhood because we dont call teh police enough The more times the police show up the gang bangers start getting the message and will find someplace else to hang out.

Dream On. Call, Call, Call and go the the C.A.P.S. meeting. Pour out your heart. The Police don't give a shit. JoMo hasn't given a shit for 15 years and he still gets reelected. Get organized, get out on the streets, the gang bangers want to know who they are dealing with. A bunch of unarmed Do-Gooders. We need Harry Calahan.

I used to live on the corner of Chase and Bell, and that was the quietest corner I ever lived on in Rogers Park. Jeez, now it's right by St. Scholastica too!

When I lived on the other side of Ridge, at the corner of Hoyne and Jarvis, parking sucked after 6pm. When my boyfriend and I used to circle and look for a spot we used to see people loitering all over at night in groups, sitting on mailboxes and things like that. I never did call the police, I was just happy that I had a dreadlocked guy with me and we'd walk to the apartment fast and try to ignore it. I carried pepper spray and then I moved out of there!

Craig, there HAVE been shootings in the 1400 block of W. Fargo, and murders in the 1500 block and 1600 block.... and still the Mooron does not get involved.

I moved off Fargo in 2001, just one week before a drive-by at the corner of Greenview and Fargo, three doors from Joe's house (he's lived there as long as I can remember), and the gangs were usually occupying all 4 corners at that intersection.

We "normal" residents had to run a terrible gauntlet coming from the rail stop on Jarvis- first you'd scope out Jarvis, because there would sometimes be rival gangs chanting at each other from opposite sides of the streets- right in front of Joe's office! Then, if the coast was clear, you'd walk down to the corner of Jarvis and Greenview, to see what the corner of Fargo looked like. If the goons were on one side of the street, you crossed the street. If they were on all corners, you walked back to Ashland.

It was scary. Your biggest fear would be getting caught in the crossfire, and you were always nervous about your purse. You tucked cash and other valuables into a blouse pocket or somewhere.

Joe seems to have no real investment in this neighborhood. You really cannot refer to his shacky, disheveled looking house as an "investment"- it has the look of a place half-occupied and uncared-for. Joe is in this area only so he can hold public office here. It is not really "his" neighborhood- his heart is elsewhere, and he seems to regard it as do his slumlord buddies, as a source of income only.

And, it seems, neither do/will the private security people. I just had a debate with the Steiner Security 'Officers' who are being paid by NorthPoint to patrol and deal with their 12 buildings NoH. They wanted to argue about their legal inability to deal with loitering (gang related) in front of one of their buildings on Paulina. This, after the community finally got NorthPoint to mount "No Loitering" signs on their buildings, with the assurance that this would enable them to enforce and prevent that kind of activity. The other day I was driving east on Jonquil and saw the Steiner Security car parked in front of the NorthPoint building at the corner of Jonquil & Ashland, on the Ashland side. Both 'officers' were out of their car, socializing with a couple of women, while around the corner on the Jonquil side there was a group of banger/dealers hanging out at the entrance and doing business. This was in mid-afternoon. Tomorrow I intend to try to reach the regional supervisor for AIMCO, the owner manager of NorthPoint, to discuss this B.S. and lack of taking care of business.

Bosworth said...

MCL, good luck with AIMCO.
At the last CAPS meeting, the Northpoint management representative admitted to the group she knew there were drug dealers living in the Northpoint buildings. She even admitted she knew which apartments they were living in, but she said there was nothing management could do!
When the CAPS officers made suggestions to her on how to get rid of them if they can't catch them selling drugs, she became hostile. A Northpoint resident said she lives in one of the buildings where a dealer conducts his business, and she is afraid to call 911 because all of her neighbors are customers of this dealer and she doesn't want them to find out she was the one that called the police. AIMCO\Northpoint won't do anything about the problem tenants they have because the HUD money keeps rolling in. They are only worried about their cash flow.
If our alderman would hold them to the HUD rules and regulations, most of the problems NOH would disappear.

North coast you hit the nail right on the head!!! little joey moore DOES NOT live in his house on Fargo very often, he has the address and stays there, because he has to, fuck face moore could care less about the gang bangers selling drugs, killing oneanother as well makeing it unsafe for the people of RP to live safely!

But all you assholes who keep voteing him in, buying all the crap he mails out telling us how he cares, and how safe & better the 49th ward is becomeing. Remember that you voted for that piece of shit when you vist your loved one who is in the hospital because they got shot or beaten by someone banger! Tell yourself "Crime is down" joey moore told me so.

All the other Alderman throughout the city participate in the planning of block parties. Then they attend and try to meet the need of their neighbors. While JOe
hasn't lived on Fargo forever he does own a house there. He doesn't know any of his neighbors and he likes it that way. He really doesn't want his neighbors to know him No one likes him It is very peculiar

bosworth,
You are correct in your assessment of AIMCO/NorthPoint management....totally indifferent and completely incompetent. Would you (and others) be interested in meeting to discuss forming a neighborhood 'task force' to strategize taking our neighborhood issues/problems with NorthPoint directly to HUD? If so,contact me at luckenbach@rcn.com.

So where does Joe really live? I have only been up here a year but I used to watch his antics and idiocy in the paper and on Channel 11. I always thought it was odd he was behind the foolish projects like Walmart and livers! What can we do in the meantime? He obviously doesn't seem to care about the uptick in crime here!

Rogers Park Guy is right. Both the condo/coop/apartment buildings on the lot on the north side of this driveway and townhouses on the south side of this driveway have to make an effort to build some fences and locked gates. It's a perfect spot to runaway right now.
