Again yesterday I call 911 about dice games for cash at the north entrance to Gale Park. I call 911 for a drug dealer on Paulina. I call 911 for a drug dealer on a bicycle at Jonquil Terrace and Marshfield. There are 5 or 6 gang bangers at the corner of Howard and Marshfield in front of the pizza place.
If I can see all of this in a 10 minute walk, why can't the police see this and get it cleaned up?
The drug dealer on Paulina has been in the same area for at least the last 6 months. He has been reported to 911 at least once a day almost every day, he has been reported to the aldermans office, and for the last 6 months he has been reported at the CAPS meetings. What does it take?
I'm tired of being told at CAPS meetings these individuals and gangs of thugs can't have their civil rights violated. What about my civil rights? What about my right to live in a neighborhood where I can walk safely and not be confronted every day with drug dealings, thugs, gang bangers, prostitutes and public drunkeness? What are the exorbitant property taxes I pay being used for?
When is the alderman going to admit he has created a big problem that needs to be cleaned up? When are the residents of this neighborhood going to stand up and say enough is enough?
When are these quality of life issues going to be addressed by the new police commander as he promised when he was introduced to the neighborhood in the spring? We're on the cusp of fall and there is no change.

If people would stop voting for the likes of Moore and get some fresh blood in that can't be bought, THEN things will change. We MUST have new leadership.
New Rod
New Todd
Since today is phrased "We will never forget" when elcetion time comes around, let's use the same slogan.
The drug dealer is paying off the police; plain and simple.
What about my civil rights?
Huh?
What civil rights of yours are being violated?
In three years vote for someone else.
"When is the alderman going to admit he has created a big problem that needs to be cleaned up? When are the residents of this neighborhood going to stand up and say enough is enough?"
Two interesting statements, first our alderman isn't going to admit to the problem, because to our aldermen THERE IS NO PROBLEM!! so joey will tell everyone that "crime is down" the ward is a great place to live! All is fine in joey moores world!
Second point when will the residents say enough? Well as long as we have goof balls keep voteing for joey, we have ourselves to blame.
Wow - do I agree with the poster. The only things we can do for now is keep on posting everywhere we can, show up at the meetings, email the alderman's office, and keep calling 911. Our civil rights are violated everyday by having to deal with these scumbags!
RE: When are these quality of life issues going to be addressed by the new police commander as he promised when he was introduced to the neighborhood in the spring?
PULL_EEZE!!!
I was at that meeting with the new commander. All I remember is the sob story he told about some gang thug kid. His attitude was that there are no bad kids...blah, blah, blah....
no one's civil rights are violated by having to 'deal' with the people you describe. you're asking for the police to finish the job of gentrifying the neighborhood with 'quality of life' policing. people's civil rights are violated all the time in heavily policed neighborhoods, chicago cops don't exactly have a good record on these things. RP doesn't need more cops, more arrests, more illegal stops and searches, more surveillance.
"...RP doesn't need more cops, more arrests, more illegal stops and searches, more surveillance." I'd like to know what Frank thinks RP needs more of....
Hey, youre living in a densely populated urban environment. Learn to choose your battles instead of bitching endlessly about every little "wrong" thing you see or perceive happening on your block.
And if you can't do that, then it's time to move the fuck to another area.
"if you don't like it, move"
ah, yes, the old reliable
now there's a creative, constructive contribution to the dialog
thanks for posting
hey, it's RP! get used to the convenient drug markets, low cost sex services, community-based games of chance, and the extra edge of excitement of walking around w/o a vest
Hugh: You conveniently skipped the "Choose your battles" part of my advice.
That's the biggest disconnect about you and other posters here. You get upset about everything on a daily basis.
In short, remove one or two of the nuisances youre referring to, you'd still find something new to whine about.
As I was smart enough to figure out years ago that Rogers Park is a permanent shit hole, that's why I live in Evanston.
Now get back to your permanent bitching.
I thought Billyjoe lived in Uptown. He always comments on the Uptown Update.
I guess he is just bored at work all day trolling blogs!
E-
Did you and "man on the street" attend the same schools? Your posts are almost as stupid, meaningless and devoid of any rational thought as his are.
go frank
Dude, billyjoe is everywhere. Like rats, cockroaches, been there, dog poop, and stray cats are everywhere. RP may not need more cops, but it needs less billyjoes/been theres and their "blame the victim" mentality. RP isn't a disaster by any stretch, but there's a lot of room for improvement.
Did you and "man on the street" attend the same schools? Your posts are almost as stupid, meaningless and devoid of any rational thought as his are.
and you have contributed SOOO much to the conversation....
Thanks... for nothing. As usual.
Another brilliant post. CVS. Says it all.
Frankly, I found the public schools in Evanston to be pathetic. Check the ISATs and consider the gifted programs and magnets. Also, the density and opportunities in a large city. However, it also brings some challenges. That is why we live in Chicago.
If more of those whinning regularly attended their CAPs meetings, had neighborhood walks, cleaned up a little, and spent a bit of time taking on the beach, then they might find find life more enjoyable. Instead, it seems that pounding electrical impulses into the computer creates a more meaningful social existence.
CAPS meetings? Neighborhood walks? Please. Crack down on the Section 8 owners, tenants, and group home residents and you'd see a bigger improvement. Stop excusing the shitty behavior of certain groups because of their economic status. Let them know that RP is their home, not just a place that they "stay" at. Make them stakeholders or get them out of the neighborhood.
Hugh, are you monitoring today? I don't have your e-mail address. Today's Trib Metro article: How to Make Chicago Better.
"Daley, for instance, has a vision of giving Chicago four new miles of lakefront parkland that would fill gaps now occupied by high-rises, apartment buildings and abandoned industrial sites. Although the mayor has no money available at the moment, he has named John Bryan, the former Sara Lee Corp. chairman, to head a committee that will look into building a continuous waterfront park stretching from Evanston to the Indiana border. Bryan spearheaded the creation of Millennium Park."
We need to mobilize the entire neighborhood!
"Another brilliant post. CVS. Says it all."
Do you honestly think I'd put personal info about myself online? CVS? Really? The fact you ran with it says it all about YOU too, Sherlock...
Nice try man on the street. But it ain't flyin.
Well, The police do ignore calls from Craig and Me, but since we are scumbuckets, we deserve it!
