* Planting Trees in a Parking Lot

One of my newer readers asked I shine light on something positive. While these stories never generate much chatter, here goes.

Reside on Morse (1340 West Morse) earns a Mending the 'Broken Heart' Award for doing something I though was extinct these days. Planting trees in a Parking Lot. Actually they're building a nice looking patio garden.

So, there you have it. Good news. I'll see you all Monday. Phillip and I are off to Florence, South Carolina for ROUND 3 of the AMA National EnduroCross series. Talk among yourselves.

I like it!! Something pretty to look at from the Morse platform.
Was a little disappointed RESIDE is not longer condo. Let's hope they can manage it well. Anyone been inside??

Another positive....

A group of people were restoring that large curving cement sculpture at Layola Park last Sunday.

Love it! So glad to see this building rehabbed and made appealing.

I saw the building's website. These should be very attractive, stylish apartments when the rehab is complete.

I believe there will be many, many nice people who will want to rent something nice so close to the rail line, now that house loans are hard to get, prices are still falling, and you have to have a DOWN PAYMENT to buy. These places ought to attract lots of young workers just out of college, who want a nice convenience-type apartment.

But, for that to happen, we need to get the Morse-Lunt-Ashland crime scene under control. There are still too many bad rentals in that pocket.

This is really great. I am very grateful to the owners of this property for stepping up and raising the bar for all the other landlords in RP.

Wow, that must have hurt... But maybe make it a once-a-week thing, posting something good happening. Give people a LITTLE hope. After all, people probably wouldn't stay in RP if there was no hope of a chance of it getting better. Good job.

That does look very nice and neatly done.

It seems that there are more flower gardens being planted at street corners this year. Maybe I am just paying closer attention.

Ahhhh, I guess you guys don't know about required greenspace for all buildings that undergo significant rehab... Pat all yourselves on the back now. See. Isn't self congratulations great?

Is this a city ordinance? If it is, it certainly hasn't happened in RP over the last 8 years.

Maybe it's one of those things that is not enforced if you make campaign contributions to the alderman?

The tone of that entry does not sound positive to me.

Sometimes I have to choose Sun-times obituaries or morsehellhole.com.

Looks like shrubs and ground cover. Are people expected to hand out in the parking lot?

I'm all for anything that makes the neighborhood look nicer. When things look better and higher end, some of the scumbags will look for another location (hopefully). BTW - I noticed lots of creeps out wandering around in my first summer living this far north. Do they go back undercover when the weather gets cold? (one can hope)

Hey all! I actually just moved into this place. It is very nice. There is still a lot of work to do inside, but my room is lovely (although much more expensive than where I came from). As far as I can tell, the other tenants are nice and the security guys are friendly as well. The management is doing a great job too. I'll admit, I was a little iffy moving here (small town life will do that to you), but I haven't had any problems so far (knock on wood).
