Pistol Wielding Home Invaders Take Lots of Cash

Yesterday evening, around 5:30 PM, allegedly three armed men, with semi-automatic weapons, invaded a home in the 2000 block of West Devon with incredible results. The bounty. 4 wallets. 6 cell phones. $20,000 in USC. No word if the alleged offenders pistol whipped the victims - or if they handed over their wallets and cell phones without a struggle. The alleged offenders fled in an unknown direction, which seems to be very normal these days.

It's almost as if the perps KNEW to target this particular dwelling.

I'd sure like to know more of the details, because this somehow does not sound like a random break-in.

A burglary with no weapon involved nets you a relatively light sentence, even if you are a repeat offender. Using a firearm, however, ups the ante considerably- you could be looking at up to 20 years.

Did the victim know his assailants? Were they involved in deals together?

Twenty grand? Sounds like a high stakes poker game to me. That could explain how someone who wasn't supposed to knew it was happening.

sounds like a junkie robbed his dealer.

There aren't many homes on the 2000 block of Devon.
Just a few apartment buildings with stores on the first floor, a few single story store & two institutions, all on the north side of the street. The south side is all Misericordia.
Most are occupied by East Indians, who don't always trust banks. They also buy a lot of 22k & 24k gold for the same reason. Numerous jewelers cater to that demand farther west on the street.
My guess is that someone saw one of the tenants with a lot a cash one day & staked him out & then struck.

Your theory sounds plausible, sock.

I can surely understand why some folks don't trust banks. Sometimes you wonder if the mattress really would be more secure, but incidents like this remind you that it's still not.

If this is really what happened, I feel very bad, because the take would represent a big chunk of the victim's life.

Get Out of Iraq!! I think we should get out of Chicago... There was 292 murders in Chicago last month, Irag had 221. Chicago's schools are the worst in the country. Cook County (Chicago) taxes are the highest (10.25%) in the country and the states pension fund is 44 billion dollars in debt. Forget about getting out of Irag, I think we all should move there... At least we could have a gun to protect ourselves.

no one has 20,000 in their house unless they drug deal. It is obvious that the robbers robbed a big time drug dealer !

Sandy, you can thank your corrupt machine Crook County and City of Shitcago politicians for this. Support the ENTIRE Constitution and give otherwise law abiding citizens the right to defend themselves. The Constitution AND the Supreme Court allow this, why do politicians in Chicago forbid allowing citizens the right to posess the tools needed to defend themselves? Never trust a government that disarms it's own citizens. Support the 2nd Amendment. Support the Entire Constitution not just bits and pieces that you choose to support.

Sandy wrote... "There was (sic) 292 murders in Chicago last month, Iraq had 221." OK, maybe you meant in 2008, but I am sick and tired of this idiotic comparison. This number represents US military personel deaths only. Don't Iraqi civilian lives count, Sandy? The World Health Organization estimates the number of civilian deaths from the start of the Iraqi war throught 2007 at 151,000 (Johns Hopkins in a disputed survey estimated 600,000)! Even after the surge, Iraqi civilian death estimates range from 800-1000 per month. How does that compare to Chicago, Sandy?

Craig, Where are you? I'm going thru BHRP withdrawal...

Gunga Dean, Sorry. I did this race yesterday and I'm really beat-up. I can't even walk today. I'm getting too old for this kid stuff.

I did finish 129th out of 300 riders though.

Tell me about it...
Starting new season of volleyball Tuesday. Won't be able to walk the rest of the week.

Craig got it wrong, again. Not the 2000 block of Devon, it was a lot farther west....

So Gunga Dean . . . .You play vollyball even though doing so renders you physically impaired?

What, do you enjoy pain . . . or is it all about the attention when everyone asks you why ("I play volleyball!") youre limping?

Clark St. said...

If Craig got the block wrong Bill, what is the correct block?

Ortis: Of course Iraqi civilian lives count. "ALL" lives count. The number of Iraqi civilian lives lost in this stupied war "DOSEN'T" compare with the amount of lives lost in Chicago, that is why I didn't compare them... I think you missed the point.

For once latinking might be right. Smells line someone robbed a known drug dealer. $20,000 in cash? I know the banks are in bad shape, but only the most eccentric senior keeps that much cash at home
