Vote NO MOORE in 2011.

And also vote against ANY pol, Dem or Repug, who promoted or voted for the obscene waste of nearly $1 Trillion dollars, yesterday, including McCain, Obama, Clinton, and any of our senators or reps who either voted for this, or favored it and promoted it.

I completely agree, North Coast! For the first time, I am voting libertarian all because of this... and that I can't stand Obama and McCain! They should have left it alone and let it work itself out!

What a f$%^ing waste!!!!

The American public has been bamboozled once again. When oh when are we ever going to make our forefathers proud and declare a revolution in this country? At this rate JAPAN is in better financial condition than either the US or Europe! Now that’s something to think about as we approach Veteran’s Day this November.

The President of France, by the way, is selling the same bill of goods to his citizens. Yesterday, speaking for France, Germany, Britain and Italy, he said, "We have taken a solemn undertaking as heads of states and government to support the banks and financial institutions in the face of this crisis." (Source: "European leaders vow to fight financial crisis" by Anna Willard and Brian Love - Reuters: October 4, 2008)

I am interested in reading the actual bill myself (yes, I have a life but this whole thing really bugs me). Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a copy - preferably on line?

Also, is anyone other than me mad at all the "victims" of those "big, bad predatory lenders" who actually fell for the idea of buying a home/condo on easy credit with a balloon payment in 7 to 10 years that would quadruple the mortgage payments? I mean, did they actually expect to get a 400% raise within the next 10 years?!? I came into a goodly sum a few years ago and thought I might be able to buy a home. Once I investigated it further, took into account the total cost of repairs and upkeep, insurance and taxes - and given the fact that we wanted to stay in Rogers Park if possible, well the budget just wouldn't hold so we opted to remain in the neighborhood as renters instead of homeowners. We could have taken a no-money-down- balloon-payment-with-intent-to-remortgage-later deal but we didn't because it simply wasn't the smart thing to do. But now, we're paying because there were so many people out there who saw opportunities to live in governor's mansions while working in janitor's jobs. ARGH! Don't get me wrong, I'm mad as hell at the Wall Street Fat Cats and their Government Allies who happily set the stage and directed all the players in this fiasco (refer to my opening statement) but I am also angry with the idiots who fell for pie in the sky mortgages.

Well, that's my rant on the subject. So anyway, can anyone direct me to a website where I can read the actual text of the bill our elected officials passed Friday?

I am not sure why we are always 'blaming' someone else for the state of the finiancial markets. Who fell for ' Use your house and take the vacation of your dreams!' ....buy a new car - borrow from your home.....you have already built up plenty of equity.....seriously the I need and will have it now generation must take soem responsibility for this mess. Anyone can come by and appraise your home but the reality is it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. That and nothing more. I remember a couple of years back at a party and a fellow told me he refinianced his house and bought a new car. I never understood how anyone coujld bet their house on a car. I have lots of equity in my home but I am old school. You always need a place to live. No second mortgages. No debts. God willing it will be paid off in about 12 years. ANd hopefully I am around in it for another 20......and then I hope my children will someday want to live there.

I have vented my spleen on delusional, indulgent borrowers who overbought and overfinanced, too many times on this blog as well as my own, to repeat myself.

It sickens me that we are all on the hook for the rampage of reckless borrowing and lending of the past 10 years.

And I can find no words that fully convey my rage at my taxes being used to prop up house prices at levels still far beyond parity with incomes and rents.

How is it my responsibility to make other people whole in their bad investments, whether those are over-hyped stocks trading 67X earnings in declining industries, or houses bought at twice the price they would rate at rental-parity, or doddering old iron-age industries that ceased to be competitive or relevant 30 years ago?

I've always believed that there is no cleavage between the practical and the moral. If it is impractical and unworkable, there is usually a moral failing at the core. If it is immoral, it always makes for bad practical results.

To put a law into place that A. places all of us, jointly and severally, on the hook for the next 3 generations, for bad debt generated by perhaps 10% of the population at the most, and that profited only a relative handful of hyper-wealthy Wall ST. buccaneers, while turning the constitution of our country upside down, converting our country into a totally socialized economy, and concentrating complete power with equally complete lack of oversight and accountability into the hands of a man- Paulson- who has made nothing but bad calls, with the assistance of the people who made it possible for these loans to be floated to begin with and who profited wildly from them.... is something I never thought would happen in my lifetime.

This is one of the most tragic events ever to transpire in this country, second only to the passage of the USAPATRIOT Act. This country as it was conceived is over.

Vote NO MOORE in 2011

2007 Tax bill up 11%
Projected gas bill (based on new budget amount) up 17% 2007-2008, and Peoples Gas newsletter warns that "Natural Gas prices are 66% higher than last year at this time"
Tax bill increase over ten years 100%
Gas bill up 100% in ten years- even after all new windows -$25000 worth-
Rent increase over ten years 50% (800 to 1200) for 3 bed 2 bath 1600 SF, fully refurbished, well maintained (~$100,000 in rehab) owner occupied 3 flat on a residential block just 3 blocks from both Howard El and Metra

It is not just that property prices outpaced rent equivalency, it is that rents have been pressured from rising, at less than the inflation rate, because of low/creative financing that removed a significant number of viable renters from the rental pool. IE we made bad owners out of good renters.

It is not JUST that property prices are coming down (-10% in Chicago based on Case Shiller, from peak 2005/2006 prices so far), RENTS WILL BE going up. The current math of rising costs outpacing rents by 2 to 1 is completely unsustainable. And the rental pool is currently increasing. All these 1 and 2 bedroom condos will NOT rent for what they used to rent for as the total cost of taxes -300-400- a month and assessments -150-300- alone about equal what the rents where in those same units before they were converted. Mind you none of these numbers have anything to do with the mortgage(s)

Does anyone know if I can still get a no money down, adjustable rate mortgage so I can get a 4 bedroom home, with stainless steal appliances, granite counter tops, and a pool... actually no pool, because the chlorine is to expensive.

They need to loos their homes for being idiots, and the mortgage brokers fired for setting these morons up!

Greed, Idiots, and morons, oh my!

As far as Diamond goes, her real name is Amanda Sabin. She was recently released from prison/jail. Rumour has it she was once a paramedic and then got hooked on crack, but who knows if that is true. That's all I know.

She is trouble and to be avoided and if she solicits you, I would call the police and report it.

Whenever I see "Diamond" she's always in the park with the other homeless folks chilling on the benches. Rarely have I seen her elsewhere. This is usually on Sunday mornings where there appears to be someone who provides food for them. Not sure of the story there.

Unknown said...

The folks enjoying breakfast in the park on Sundays seem to be part of a church group holding a lakefront service.

I believe they are kind enough to share their food with some of the homeless folks from time to time.

Unfortunately, Diamond and her pals are real trouble. They use drugs in the park, buy and sell drugs in the park, swear and fight and otherwise make it a lousy place for the families and kids who try to enjoy it.

You don't see that sort of thing on Oak Street Beach. Apparrently, it's ok if they live in the parks in Rogers Park.

Is Diamond the blond that hangs down by Circle Park quite often? She has tried to talk to me several times and seems pretty crazy. I have watched her jump in the car with men several times and drive off. I have complained to the Alderman's office several times about the gatherings of these people down by Circle Park and heard nothing back. I really got irritated when they started sleeping in Circle Park itself and then in the park when I was walking my dogs in the morning. That Scotty guy ran up to one of my dogs and he's lucky he didn't get his hand bit off. It makes me so mad that this group of people (that should be out there making a living) disrupt an otherwise pleasant morning for the rest of us. And you are right - I have lived by Oak Street and North AVenue Beaches - I NEVER saw druggies hanging around and sleeping on the beaches there when I walked the dogs in the morning!

Unknown said...

That's always hard for me to reconcile. Feeding the needy where they live/hang sounds like a good thing right? But how does that affect the neighborhood where the good deed occurs on a regular basis? I'm sure there are strong opinions on both sides. Are most of the truly homeless less addicts and more just plain mentally-disturbed (schizo, bi-polar, etc...) And how much can we hold the latter accountable for their actions??
