Late Notice From Joe Moore; Staff Argumentative

Hi Craig,

At 10:20 a.m. today I got the notice about the community meeting scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. That is about 32 hours notice if my math is right. Plenty of time for a person to rearrange their schedule, and find a sitter, right? No it is not. Thankfully I had seen this information on a blog and I have made arrangements and will be there.

My complaint, this happens with EVERY community meeting Joe’s office informs us about. So I called to tell his staff how frustrating it is to be notified the day before an event. The response: These are not Moore’s events, the emails are sent as soon as the group hosting the event requests it (even if the alderman’s office has knowledge of it before the request is made by the host).

Furthermore, the staff/volunteer was rather argumentative with me, I finally said that maybe Joe’ should have a policy regarding how “late” he will send notices since it makes him look stupid. Either he had no response or was coached to be less argumentative with a constituent because then he had nothing else to say.

Hope to see many of my neighbors on Tuesday!

Not only is this 'late notice', this scheduling is in direct conflict with the Gale, Triangle and HWM Playlot Parks Advisory Council's meetings scheduled for Tuesday, December 30th at 7 PM at the Gale park Community Center. The Alderman seems intent on undermining and subverting the work and efforts of the Advisory Councils. Go figure!

Didn't this council just earn some fancy award?

The Gale Park Advisory Council has been selected to receive 'Friends of The Parks' 2008 Advocacy Award', at FOTPs' upcoming 34th Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon, for the successful advocacy for the Gale Park Community Center. There will be a more detailed public announcement later this week. I would add that this honor and award belongs to ALL those who supported our successful efforts to stop the Aldermans' privatization of the new Gale Park Community Center. In addition, Save Our Community Center is included as one of the 'Top 10 Stories' of 2008 by the Chicago Journal. http://nhna.blogspot.com/2008/12/from-news-star-journaltop-10-stories-of.html

Maybe the staff person is mad because Moore may not be voted back in come 2011, LOL. That's the only reason I can think of why the person was argumentative.

In fairness, I would say that notices are late about half the time-certainly not EVERY time.

I am sure Joe's office gets many requests to blast events and with the holidays, it may have allen thru the cracks-who knows.

It must be nice to be perfect!

MCL, the meeting was scheduled by Good News and the Obama transition team I believe. I don't think Joe had a hand in choosing the date at all.

Wow!! joe moore makeing himself look stupid! I heard joey was born stupid.

Let's face it joey moore is stupid smart ( the people who believe in joeys BS e-mails and literture & voted him as our alderman our the stupid ones), nor does joey care about the 49th ward! All joey is doing is cashing is 100,000+ a year checks!

Jocelyn, I think half is a little too "fair". I would say at least 4 out of the last 5 emails regarding events I have received were sent very late.

No one said anyone is perfect. I am not sure how you meant that so I will, for now, not take offense. It is his, and his staffs job to inform the community, at least that is what they claim to do with their email blasts. I am simply pointing out that they are doing a lousy job, not imperfect, lousy.
In any case, when a constituent calls with a complaint/suggestion Joe's representatives should not be argumentative.

We are paying their salaries and their raises - they should always be polite and follow through for us. Most times I send an email to the alderman's office I get the same "passing it along" nonsense and never receive a further reply. I may be wasting my time but I will continue to send them to make them aware that we know what's going on!

here is a e-mail I recieved from joey today!!

"Developer Peter Sterniuk and his attorney, Paul Kolpak, will present plans to demolish the frame single-family home that currently sits on the lot and construct a seven-unit condominium building. The developer is asking for two administrative adjustments. Administrative adjustments are minor deviations from the current zoning requirements that can be granted at the discretion of the City of Chicago's Zoning Administrator."

This is in regard to a meeting a Field school on Jan 5th. Just what the ward needs more condos, that will sit empty. Hey Craig, how much did Mr.Sterniuk donate to our boy joey??

Peter Sterniuk.

I'm just saying that maybe we shouldn't sweat the small stuff so much and maybe we should "pick our battles" so to speak. Not a popular stance around here perhaps, but there are so many BIG problems in the world right now, I just don't see the point of bashing people on smaller issues like this.

My experience with the Ward office is that they have been consistently polite. And I am someone who campaigned for another candidate and they know it. I have found if you approach them with respect and courtesy, they respond in turn. I think some people treat the ward office like their door mat or punching bag and then wonder why they get a vinegar response. Hmmm...

I was only trying to be funny with the "perfect" comment."

Happy New Year everyone!
