2:20 AM: 911 caller says 4 shots fired at Paulina and Greenleaf early Sunday morning. Curfew breaking teenage male (15-to 17 years old) seen fleeing west in the alley towards Clarks Street. A dark colored PT Cruiser is also seen fleeing north on Paulina towards Howard. Cadillac parked on street at 7064 North Paulina has one window shot out.
2:28 AM: Armed robbery. (choice of weapon not given) 911 caller says $200 USC, credit cards and cell phone were taken by force from him at 1627 West Pratt.
8:08 AM: Police radio dispatch regarding a shoplifter. Offender steals two shirts from CVS Pharmacy on the south west corner of Broadway and Granville. Offender bolts east to the Granville EL station. Runs up to the CTA Red Line platform. Suddenly jumps off the platform, hops across the dangerous high voltage tracks, into the alley below. Officer chasing the offender wisely halts any further chase. Shoplifter heads north on Winthrop, towards Loyola University.
8:14 AM: A flash goes out on the 8:08 AM shoplifter. Male/black, about 5 foot 9 inches tall. Wearing all black clothing and carrying a shoulder bag with two stolen shirts inside the bag. Last seen in the 6300 block of North Winthrop. Use caution. Anyone who would risk his life for two shirts has to be a bit unstable.

Very unstable.
Craig, do you know how many police on foot patrol in Rogers Park?
I've seen one or two walk around Loyola University when the parents drop off their kids at the beginning of every school year.
Once the parents leave, so do the foot patrols.
Ahhh .. I see. Well, I know that police foot patrols are great for a neighborhood. A family friend (officer Jackson) has been patrolling the stretch of Division between California and Western for close to 10 years now, on foot. He has been thanked over and over by store owners and neighbors in actually relieving some of the troubles in that area. He works the whole shift on foot and actually improved his health by losing a considerable amount of weight in the process (which many of these cops actually need). I say atleast 2 fulltime officers (on foot) on Morse/Howard would make atleast some difference.
Don't forget the bicycle cops in our neighborhood.
They are hard working, front-line folks.
We need more bicycle cops. They're great and very effective.
foot and bike patrols are what it's all about. i understand that in a car, you can speed up response time. i also understand that, the more cops stay inside a car, the more it becomes, "inside the car it's normal (people), outside it's nothing but animals". a wall goes up and the mentality gets hardened. cops who walk a beat and actually look people in the eye and interact with them have lower crime rates on their beat, gain the trust of the citizens, and keep the scumbags from coming around.
