Event # Given for "Howard Street Initiative"

4:48 PM: Whoo-hoo. This weekend our new 24th District Police Commander, David Sobczyk, has hit the ground running with a new initiative to take the bite out of crime in the Howard Street area. The "Howard Street Initiative" was instituted today and has issued an event number. The event number was given to officer #2422 and is 7716. Nothing further at this time.

5:30 PM: Arizona 0 - Pittsburgh 0. Kick-off.

8:23 PM: 911 caller says a barnyard goat is on the loose in the park at Marine and Lawrence. Caller said the goat is wearing a collar.

8:24PM to 8:26 PM: Various police officers make strange goat sounds over the police radio at each other for a couple of minutes. One officer sounds more like a sheep.

8:40 PM: Police officers track down and catch the goat. One officer wants to know if anyone speaks goat. Animal control is on it's way.

8:53 PM: Anonymous 911 caller says gang members are jumping up and down on cars at Sherwin and Sheridan and flashing gang signs.

8:55 PM: Arizona 23 - Pittsburgh 20. Two minute warning.

9:01 PM: Pittsburgh 27 - Arizona 23. Thirty-five seconds left.

9:06 PM: Pittsburgh 27 - Arizona 23. Twenty-two seconds left.

9:09 PM: Two football minutes took 14 real minutes. Game over. Pittsburgh 27 - Arizona 23.

9:16 PM: There's a fire in the 1500 block of West Pratt. Police want the street blocked off at Greenview and Pratt.

I've been watching Howard Street all day and only saw one police vehicle.

I'm guessing this is the officer that got the only "event number." ROTFL.

When Joe Moore mentioned "new initiative to take the bite out of crime in the Howard Street area", do you think that he stated this to brag about his supposed involvement in the operation, or warn his criminal buddies to stay away for a few days so they don't get busted?

What does the Super Bowl have to do with Rogers Park?

I often drive past the Howard street station from Clark to Sheridan, "the bad part" and it sucks. It sucks because I get caught in traffic behind police cars and undercover police cars with flashing lights in front of Around the Clock. Different perspective, I didn't even know about the "Howard Street Initiative" until now, but I have been seeing police presence ongoing AND arrests being made. There's worse shit on Morse with cops hanging around everywhere all the time.

Also Craig- people watch the Superbowl, they talk about it, just like every white collar office worker emails friends at work. Can't people put the microscope down? Like you don't leave dirty Q-tips on your sink, or clean before you know you're going to have company!? Did you watch the Superbowl? I didn't... am I in violation for using the actual name of the sporting event? ha ha

You have a great blog, but sometimes it's just too much of what people can criticize bloggers about, but we all know the positive posts don't get much response...

How about Phelps hitting the bong? Maybe he could lead the campaign to legalize marijuana! Maybe Howard Street is more progressive than we think!

You're not the first to tell me this. I wonder if Joe Moore's email blast are really all he claims they are? He's still not reaching everyone. That's why I publish this blog.

Hey! Anybody lose a goat? Was that someone's lunch?

You are correct, presstoe! NORML should bring Phelps on board as their spokesperson.

That's why I read your blog- it's informative and I trust you're not totally opinionated *smile*

Update- I hung out on Howard in front of the former "Gale Park" with a friend today and saw 2 police cars parked in front of the center there and undercover cars circling the blocks (I saw the same car go by 3 times in 20 minutes, the other 2 passed one time). One cop stopped in front of the Pawn Shop and went in- I don't know what that was about. This was around 4pm. No people hangin' on the corner in front of the fast food joint either. Something seems to have changed. Will it last?
